Description:
Oregon law prohibits discrimination in all public elementary and secondary schools that receive state funding, including discrimination based on perceived race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or national origin. All comments during our public board meetings will follow these policies. Description:

Jessica Bailey, Taft 7-12 - Jessica's 7th grade students have been digging deep into algebra lately. We are using hands-on manipulatives this year for each concept we learn, which takes time and organization, but leads to more concrete understanding, as well as providing engagement and fun in math! Here is a picture of students using algebra tiles to solve equations on their algebra mats. (See picture 1)

Jane Lehrer, Newport High School (Speech/Language Pathologist) - Jane is one of the most caring and competent educators we have in this district. She skillfully handles social skills groups, her consultations are always so well thought out and helpful, and recently she has been helping me incorporate more academic language activities into my classes. In our SLC’s, she helps do social skills roleplay as well as speech and articulation work. She is an extremely valued member of this team and we are lucky to have her!

12.a.1. Chromebook Purchase Presentation
Description:
Item Quantity Cost per Unit Total 24-25
Case 860 40 34400
Cart 24 2500 60000
TS Dell 3110 0 360 0
Dell 3110 900 250 225000
Warranty 430 80 34400
      $353,800
  • Due to COVID, there were unbalanced purchases of Chromebooks.  In order to correct this, we will need to keep some of our Dell 3100 devices in service longer than we would like.
  • The refresh cycle will change slightly to buying 900 devices every year, and half of them will have a warranty and cases moving forward.  We have never purchased an extended warranty in the past, but we have evidence as to why we should.
  • We are making a drastic change to middle school devices, where the teachers will keep those devices in their classrooms instead of the kids taking them home.  We need to buy more carts to accomplish this.

Resources are adequate at this time to make this transfer and also meet the Board Policy requiring a 7% minimum ending fund balance in the General Fund.
