Continuing the quest of Heat, Water, and Light at ALL campuses.

TB Campus

• ALL Exterior Lights are operating 
• Still working on inside lighting (GYM is a priority for ALL schools tournaments and activities)
• Fire Suppression system repair parts have arrived in ANC, scheduling with ACCEL Fire to perform repairs
• Still working on failing heat system in both buildings.
• GARN units are working very well. 
• Finding many fans throughout the buildings that are not working and have replaced several, several more to go.
• F-1, F-5, F-10 and just noticed Wood Shed Drying Fan is inoperative (2-9-25)

Kasaan

• Working on Teacher Housing
• Toyo heater is repaired and operational
• Mike is making structural repairs to get house suitable for living
• Replaced outside LED light in front of school

Whale Pass

• Many trips out this last month to work on water
• Repaired Wood Boiler Exhaust stack
• Replaced faulty AXIOM pump on GARN make up water
• Bled all radiators in School, Teacher Housing, and Water Connex

Naukati

• Several trips to Naukati to work on heat and water during cold snap
• Fought heating issues over several days - mitigated
• Circ Pumps not working - replaced 2 failed pumps
• Tightened belts and followed air ducts

This policy was originally proposed by AASB in 2015, but has not yet been adopted by the District.  The policy addresses the requirement in 4 AAC 06.888 that complaints that a district has violated the law in administering programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) be submitted to the district for resolution before being filed with DEED. The policy generally provides for the review and resolution of complaints.  An administrative regulation that accompanies this policy will undergo administrative review and then be included as an information item on the February meeting agenda.

This is a policy from AASB' Model Policy Manual that was not previously included in SISD's policies.  It emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe and orderly school environment, sets expectations for appropriate and respectful behavior and interactions, and identifies the next steps when those standards are violated.

It is the Administration's recommendation that the School Board approve the Memorandum of Agreement with SERRC for the Management and Operation of the Youth Brain Injury Program

Pertinent Facts:

SERRC Youth Brain Injury Program is a free resource available to all families, students, and school districts. Returning to school after a brain injury—such as a concussion (or more severe injury)—is a critical period for students, and a structured support plan can make a significant difference in their recovery and long term success. The program provides direct assistance in developing and implementing Return to School Support Plans, as well as professional development for educators and other supports on a district level.

Attached is a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) provided to districts by the AK Department of Education and Early Development that can be used to establish a formal partnership that gives staff access to a direct consult line for assistance with specific student concerns. DEED encouraged districts to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure all students receive the support they need.

These units will be purchased using funds from the COPS grant.  Per board policy 3312, three quotes were obtained for the door lock systems.  Daanish Technologies provided the lowest quote, which is also within the amount budgeted in the grant.

It is the Administration's recommendation that the School Board authorize the Superintendent or designee to purchase camera systems from Daanish Technologies for $82,495.

These units will be purchased using funds from the COPS grant.  Per board policy 3312, three quotes were obtained for the camera systems.  Daanish Technologies provided the lowest quote, which is also within the amount budgeted in the grant.

It is the Administration's recommendation that the School Board approve and authorize the Superintendent to award a contract for the Seven (7) 25kVA Generator Complete Sets project to West Coast Energy Systems, LLC for a total award amount of $226,582.

As part of the emergency preparedness grant we received, we solicited bids for generators to support our schools during power outages through a request for proposal that was released on January 20, 2025. We received a total of seven bids from vendors nationwide. After scoring the bids using a rubric, we selected West Coast Energy Systems with a bid of $226,582, which includes shipping to Thorne Bay. Energy Systems has met all the requirements outlined in the Request for Proposal (RFP).

Our next steps include installing electrical receptacles in all school buildings, ordering communication equipment, and procuring emergency preparedness bags to ensure our schools are fully equipped for emergency situations. We will keep you updated as we move forward with implementation.

It is the Administration's recommendation that the School Board approve and authorize the Superintendent to award a contract for the School Door Replacement project to Cressy Door Company for a total award amount of $262,188.09.

As part of the COPS grant we received, which funds security enhancements such as cameras, electronic door locks, and other safety measures, we solicited bids for door replacements across our schools through RFP # SISD-DOOR-2025. While we received several inquiries nationwide, only two vendors submitted complete bids. After careful review, we have selected Cressy Door Company with a bid amount of $262,188.09. This selection aligns with our goal of enhancing school security and ensuring a safer environment for students and staff.

PERTINENT FACTS
At the recommendation of the AK Department of Public Safety Criminal Justice Information System Program auditor, a note has been added to this administrative regulation to clarify that the district does not currently transport media containing criminal justice information.

This is a new exhibit based on a sample form from the Department of Public Safety.  It is designed to ensure that employees, volunteers, and chaperones who submit fingerprints for a criminal history background check have reviewed the documents provided that outline their privacy rights and are aware of those rights.
