The majority of ASC's voted for Calendar B:


The two calendar options were reviewed at the March 13, 2024, board meeting and then sent to all school ASC's for voting.  

Both calendar options include:
  • 4-day school week for students
  • Thanksgiving Break: 1 week
  • Spring Break: 1 week
  • The Friday preceding a holiday weekend is a non-workday for teachers
  • Staggered Fridays for inservice, workdays, and non-workdays
  • SISD spring break aligns with other POW Island districts
    • shortens span between winter and spring breaks
    • supports elementary and middle school sports schedules
Option A also includes:
  • 1st day of school: August 19
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks
  • Last day of school: May 29
Option B also includes:
  • 1st day of school: August 26
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks, 3 days
  • Last day of school: June 6

PERTINENT FACTS
The Education CTE Program of Study (CTEPS) consists of four courses: EDU 1, EDU 2, EDU 3, and EDU 4.  These courses have all been entered into the CTE Portal on the AK Department of Education and Early Development website, and can be viewed by selecting the course in the table below:

This policy identifies goals and objectives for instruction.  This update removes a reference to a withdrawn state regulation that required districts to set target dates graduation and attendance rates.  The update also adds the optional language to set the target graduation rate of 90% by a certain date.  The date was set at 2025 for the first reading of this policy.
