12. WALLED LAKE VIRTUAL UPDATE
During the 2020-2021 school year, a District team of staff and administrators met to study best practices in virtual learning. Mr. Ali Hamka, Principal at Walled Lake Western High School, along with staff from the District's Walled Lake Virtual program, will provide an update on the success of the program this year. |
13. WAIVER REQUEST
The Commerce Chargers and Walled Lake Braves Youth Football and Cheer programs have been direct feeder programs to Walled Lake Central High School and Walled Lake Western High School for many years. They are non-profit organizations comprised of football teams and cheer squads based in Commerce Township. They are truly a community program as the league rules dictate that students on these teams must live in our school boundary area. These programs work closely with the high school coaches in the respective sports to better prepare student athletes for when they arrive in high school. About 95% of our 8th graders that are part of the Chargers and Braves go on to participate at the high school level. Over 60% of the District’s athletes that participate in a Walled Lake high school football and cheer programs began by participating in the Chargers and Braves community programs. Recently the District had to discontinue the middle school tackle football program, leaving the District without a middle school youth football feeder program. Administration recommends that in accordance with Board Policy 7002 AR Fee Schedule – School Facilities, the District reduce the athletic field rental fields by 50% to ensure the continued strength of these community programs. |
14. EQUIPMENT USAGE REQUEST - Memorial Day Parade
For many years, the Walled Lake Schools Transportation Department has participated in the City of Walled Lake’s annual Memorial Day Parade. A Walled Lake/Dean Transportation bus driver drives a bus in the parade procession while other drivers walk alongside, waving and passing out candy. This is a highly anticipated community event and provides a good public relations opportunity for the District. This year’s Memorial Day parade is on Monday, May 30, 2022. Following a two-year hiatus, administration supports participation by the Walled Lake Transportation Department and recommends permitting them to use two Walled Lake buses for the parade. Walled Lake/Dean Transportation employees will donate their time to drive the buses in the parade and clean them afterward. |
15. BOARD POLICY REGULATION UPDATES
The Board Policy Administrative Regulations fees and fines are reflected in 2001 AR Student Fees, Deposits, Fines and Charges, 7002 AR Fee Schedule School Facilities, and 7002 AR Use of School Facilities Outdoor Center. Fees have been updated to reflect the rates for the 2022-23 school year. These Board Policy regulations are being submitted as informational items prior to updating the web-based Board Policy Manual. |
16. PROCLAMATION: VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WEEK
While we honor individual volunteers, as well as outstanding staff members through our Golden Apple Award program, we do feel it is appropriate to honor the legions of volunteers we have working throughout the schools each day of the school year. The week of April 17 through April 23, 2022, has been designated as Walled Lake Schools Volunteer Recognition Week.

17. EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK
Each year in early May, we pause to honor the educational team that serves the students of the Walled Lake Consolidated School District. Since quality education is a team effort, we honor our employees in all job classifications together during the same week. The week of May 2 -6, 2022, has been designated Walled Lake Schools’ Employee Recognition Week. We’re asking the Board to join in our expression of appreciation to our outstanding employees.
