1.A. Pathwise Presentation

Terri Huttel, Coordinator of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and Greg Jones, Teacher Development Coordinator, presented an overview and next steps for implementation of Pathwise, which is a Framework Observation Program with the purpose to focus on the skills and experiences needed to conduct systematic classroom observations that are designed to enrich teaching.  The observation program was presented in a workshop to over fifty Duluth Public Schools administrators and teachers August 17-19, 2010.
1.B. Duluth Public Schools 2010-11 Site Improvement Goal Summary

Tawnyea Lake, Director of Assessment and Evaluation, presented a summary of site improvement goals and results from the 2009-10 school year.  She also presented site improvement goals for 2010-11 along with details on how these goals (which were presented individually by sites to administration on October 29 and November 5, 2010) will be met.

Attached for the first reading are recommended revisions to Policy 6160 - Field Trips.
3.F. Extended Trip Requests

The following extended trip requests are submitted for approval:

Nordic Ski Trip to West Yellowstone - According to MSHSL Bylaw 411, if a member school's League-sponsored athletic team requests out-of-state travel for a practice or a scrimmage for the varsity, junior varsity, or "B" squad teams, the School Board must review the itinerary, review the financial aspect of the trip, verify that that the trip is in compliance with Title IX relative to travel opportunities for each gender, and approve the travel at a regularly scheduled school board meeting.

Bonnie Fuller-Kask , Head Coach for East's Nordic Ski Team,  is requesting approval to travel to West Yellowstone with members of East High School's Nordic Ski Team from November 19-27, 2010 and has provided the attached information required by the MSHSL.  All expenses will be paid with student fees.  Both male and female students will have the opportunity to participate in this trip. 

Business Professionals of America (BPA) students from STC will attend the Region V BPA Competition held at Itasca Community College in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on January 27-28, 2011.  The cost of the trip is $137.65 per student and will be funded through fund raising activities and student fees.

FFA students from STC will attend the "Ag Activities Day" held at the University of Minnesota-Crookston in Crookston, Minnesota on December 2-3, 2010.  The total cost of the trip will be $1,115 and will be funded through fund raising activities and grant dollars.

BPA Grades 9-12 Business Education students will attend the State BPA Competition held at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, Minnesota from March 9-12, 2011.  The cost of the trip is $330.14 per student and will be funded with donations, student fees, and from fund raising activities.

Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) students from STC will attend the Minnesota HOSA Spring Leadership Conference held at the St. Cloud Civic Center and Best Western Kelly Inn in St. Cloud, Minnesota from March 21-24, 2011.  The total cost of the trip is $4,257 and will be funded with student fees.

East High School Government Class students will travel to Washington, D.C. from April 17-22, 2011 to visit various landmarks and museums, which will give them an inside view of the people, processes, and places in our nation's capitol.  The cost of the trip is $1,260 plus airfare per student and will be funded with student fees.

FFA students from STC will attend the Minnesota State FFA Convention held at the campuses of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota from May 1-3, 2011.  The total cost of the trip is $2,200 and will be funded through fund raising activities, student fees, and grant dollars.

BPA students from STC will attend the National BPA Competition in Washington, DC from May 3-8, 2011.  The cost of the trip is $1,430.55 per student and will be funded through fund raising activities, student fees, and grant dollars.

Morgan Park seventh grade students will travel to Thunder Bay and Ontario, Canada from May 25-27, 2011.  This trip will allow students to observe a foreign country and its culture and will provide a positive life experience for them.  The cost of the trip is $200 per student and will be funded with student fees.

HOSA students from STC will attend the National HOSA Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California from June 21-25, 2011.  The total cost of the trip is $17,214 and will be funded with student fees.
