DISTRICT WIDE HEATING PROJECTOIL HEATERS: Whale Pass has old furnace repaired and operating nicely Whale Pass has dead furnace replaced with high efficiency and still in final stages Naukati broken boiler belly has been replaced and tuned ups are in progress Coffman Cove boilers have been serviced and found pumps and controls bad - they are being ordered and replaced soon Kasaan burned up furnace has been replaced with high efficiency oil furnace. Thorne Bay School boiler repairs have been completed Thorne Bay Gym/DO boilers are still giving issue and repairs continue PA - Bud is keeping those furnaces working nicely - Thank You Teacher Housing: Most of the teacher housing furnaces and water heaters have been tuned up. We are replacing a few burners and water heaters that have failed or are no longer serviceable and need repairs WOOD HEATERS: ALL systems have been cleaned and all parts are on order (some trickling in) Hollis’ Garn has a small leak and still needs to be piped correctly (misplumbed during new building construction). The leak should be smooth to fix as it is pretty easy to get to. HUGE THANKS to Southeast Conference, Alaska Energy Authority, USFS, and Alaska Rural Energy Consortium for helping us get our systems up and running with a combination of funding, training, and communication !!! Our Maintenance Team is now capable of making most of the repairs (welder needed for one so far) and maintaining them from here on out. We are excited to make them shine again. Coffman Cove Greenhouse boiler is still waiting for a few parts so we can refill and test that system out for year-round growing opportunities :~) Coffman Cove school and housing units will be retrofitted with updated controls to increase efficiency and reliability of operation. OTHER PROJECTS: Whale Pass water system, most parts have arrived Whale Pass wood - Josh H and Toby will head out with gas splitter to resplit and stack wood so it will work for this winters GARN heating. Coffman Cove Greenhouse roof panels have been patched temporarily - will work with Brandy to get proper materials to complete repair Naukati water system is giving troubles and we are currently in progress of diagnosing and repairing as rapidly as possible. Hollis water issues are ongoing, and working through system to try and get repairs. THANK YOU to Hollis group for all your patience and effort to stay running. Thorne Bay Campus stairs have been completed 10-15-2024 - Sadhu with support of the maintenance crew have completed the walkway from parking lot to Gym and stairs between Gym and School. Thorne Bay - Gym Lighting still trying to repair them Thorne Bay - Gym Fire Pump repairs are still in progress - parts have arrived and contractor’s place and will be shipped here in advance PA - Maintenance took a trip out, replaced the Play Area siding and replaced the Sodium Vapor lighting with High Efficiency LED fixtures, with products that were purchased previously. OTHER UPDATES Welcoming Josh Hayes to the District Maintenance Team as of October 1st Alex, Toby and I went to PA to perform covered play area maintenance October 9-11 Alex and I went to the Alaska Rural Energy Conference in FBX, made a lot of contacts and learned of many new programs that may be able to help our district become more efficient and what grants may be able to help us get there. Diesel leak in Thorne Bay Gym boiler room has been mitigated from a malfunction on one of the Gym boilers on October 9th morning. Thanks for Toby, Alex, Rod, and James (CoTB) for the quick help to get cleaned up. Special thanks to the Maintenance Crew for another good month of progress as we continue to repair and improve the SISD facilities and property. Some policies have been updated due to statutory or regulatory changes, and thus require district adoption to make sure you are in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Other updates are optional for adoption, but are recommended. Sometimes these deal with specific issues and other times they may be policies that we identify or others have forwarded to us that are not compatible with today’s best practices. All of our policy updates have been legally vetted so that you can be assured they are in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Description:
Information from AASB This revision updates BP 5131.6 to be in compliance with House Bill 202, which passed the legislature and became law this summer. The bill will become effective in December 2024, but this policy revision may be made now. The bill and policy update require that districts have opioid overdose drugs available at each main school building and at school-sponsored events. It also requires that a district have at least one person trained to administer the drugs at each main school site. SISD Update from 1st Reading: At the September meeting, the Board discussed removing the words "each school" from the second note on page 2. Upon further review, the administration is recommending that this wording be retained, as it describes the requirements of Alaska Statute 14.33.110. |
