RECOMMENDATION
It is the administration’s recommendation that the School Board approve Professional Services Contract #2023-1007 with Alaska Educational and Business Services, Inc., for Accounting and Business Services.

PERTINENT FACTS:
Alaska Education and Business Services, Inc. (AKEBS), has been providing accounting and business services for the District since 2007.  During this time, AKEBS has provided the District with exceptional accounting and business services.  This contract is for services provided for FY 2024.

10.B. 2023-2024 School Calendar
Description:

RECOMMENDATION

It is the administration’s recommendation that the School Board postpone consideration of the 2023-2024 school calendar until the May regular meeting.

PERTINENT FACTS:

Three calendar options were originally presented for the 2023-2024 school year, Option A, Option B, and Option C.  Starting in February, stakeholders at each school site were encouraged to attend the school ASC meeting and vote on their preferred calendar.

The original vote for the school calendar was tied between calendar options A & B (calendar option C did not receive any votes).  This vote used an electoral-type system that allocated 2 points to Thorne Bay ASC vote and 1 point to the ASC vote at each of the other schools.

Due to this tie, each ASC was asked to hold a second vote between calendars A & B with the outcome to be determined by the popular vote.

The following voting requirements were sent to lead teachers to share with their ASCs:
  1. Voting must be in-person at an ASC meeting.
  2. Notice that the 2023-2024 tie-breaking vote will be held at the ASC meeting must be shared in multiple ways (e.g.: email, posted in school & community, note home, Facebook, etc...) at least 10 days before the meeting.
  3. To vote, the ASC member needed to be 18 years or older and meet other requirements identified by your ASC to vote at your ASC meetings
  4. Eligible voters needed to vote in person at the ASC meeting using a voting ballot (the ballot was shared as well).
Unfortunately, not all ASCs held meetings for the second vote prior to today.  As a result, we do not yet have a final tally of votes.
