The Board of Education reviewed fees at the December Board meeting. Bright Beginnings tuition for 2016-17 will be $2,190 for the 3 day program and $3,580 for the 5 day program. There will also be a new technology fee of $50 for all grade 4 and 5 students.

Pleasantdale has long been known as a leader in early childhood education.  We were one of the first districts to offer a developmentally appropriate preschool and over the years have seen the benefits of this program as our students continue in our schools.  Over the course of the year our early child experts and the building administration have been auditing our program and will present suggestions to improve our preschool program.

The builder/owner for the residence at 10932 German Church Road, will be presenting a request to tap into the District's water main on elementary school property. The Easement Agreement, which will be drafted by the District''s attorney, will be an item on February Board  agenda.

In Illinois, school districts are required to offer the 5Essentials Survey of Learning Conditions to all teachers, parents and students in grades 6-8.  The survey measures schools’ effectiveness in five areas: Ambitious Instruction, Involved Families, Supportive Environment, Collaborative Teachers, and Effective Leaders. Schools are rated based on their implementation in each category, from Least Implementation to Most Implementation. Superintendent Dave Palzet will review the results for the Board of Education.

The Calendar Committee met on January 7, 2016. Members of the committee who attended the meeting were Penny Defenbaugh, Karyn Lisowski, Julie Crist, Andrea Mars, Peg Riordan, Denise Spetter, Mandy Davis, John Glimco, Dave Palzet, and Erika Sawosko. 

The Calendar Committee’s recommendation for 2016-17 is attached. The Board is scheduled to approve the 2016-17 calendar at the February meeting.

The Facilities Advisory Team met on Monday, January 11 and discussed the district’s new five-year facilities plan.  The goal of this plan is to be proactive when it comes to ensuring our facilities are maintained at a high level.  Additionally, the team reviewed improvements to our technology infrastructure.

The Finance Advisory Team recommends refunding the 2006 bond and abating $500,000 of bonds.
This action will reduce the tax burden of a house assessed at $300,000 by $81.17 and a house assessed at $500,000 by $140.35.
