Pat Schultz, head baseball coach, would like to speak with the school board about the details of a proposed baseball team trip to Florida during Spring Break.  Mr. Schultz will be present to give an overview of the trip and to answer any questions that anyone may have.

Beginning on July 1, 2013, all school districts in Minnesota are required to have a prescribed evaluation process in place for evaluating principals.  The following year, all teachers will be evaluated using an agreed upon process.  Information will be presented about the requirements for each evaluation process, what we are currently using for evaluation tools, how we are moving forward to meet the deadlines, and who is involved in the process.

Attached is a slightly revised preliminary draft of a possible 2013-14 school calendar to be discussed with the board.  Also attached is a copy of our current year calendar.  I would like to continue our discussion regarding some changes that administration is recommending to the board regarding the start of school year for our elementary students, timing of elementary conferences and the graduation date.  As part of the proposed changes, I would like to start communicating to our parents about the potential changes and would like further dialog with the board before I proceed with a parent communication.

In previous years, the school board and administration has held a one day planning retreat as we begin to look at our schedules, programs, finances for the following school year.  Last year, because of the strategic planning session, we did not have a planning day.  I would like to once again have a planning retreat and would like board input as to the value of this day, when the day should be scheduled if it is deemed appropriate, and where we would have the retreat.  We have had sessions at the MSBA Conference, Mpls Public Library, Oak Ridge Conference Center, etc. 

Each year we try to set aside some meeting time to review our current enrollment, projected enrollments into the future, and how those enrollment projections fit into our future facility needs.  Supt. Smith will present our current enrollment #s along with our facility enrollment benchmarks.

Along with six previously approved policies - 501, 502, 506, 514, 515 & 516 – to be reviewed against current revisions provided by MSBA, I have included a copy of a proposed Food Service Account policy for the district.  The policy is ready for a second reading.  The BYOD policy that has gone through a second reading is also included for your review.  I have attached copies of the current MSBA Version and our current version for comparative purposes.
