9.K. Hollis School Replacement Project: RFP 18, Fire Suppression Changes
Description:
RECOMMENDATION:
The administration recommends that the School Board approve Hollis School Replacement RFP 18, Fire Suppression Changes

PERTINENT FACTS:
During a review of the existing water flow from the damn to the building site, the sprinkler designer determined that there was inadequate water supply to provide required sustained flows for the fire sprinkler system design requirements.  This RFP is a cost proposal for providing fire sprinkler water storage tanks and associated mechanical and electrical appurtenances for a complete system. Also included in the cost proposal is civil exterior concrete slab and bollards at the storage tank location.

RFP 18 came in higher than expected and would need to be paid out of the project contingency.  The Hollis School Replacement Project Director will work with the Department of Education and Early Development to determine if there are other funding options available.
Subject:
9.L. Sprinkler Repair Proposals: Thorne Bay School and Thorne Bay Gym
Description:
RECOMMENDATION:
The administration recommends that the School Board approve the proposal for the Thorne Bay School sprinkler system from Ketchikan Mechanical, Inc., and the proposal for the Thorne Bay Gym sprinkler system from Ketchikan Mechanical, Inc. for $39,779.31.

PERTINENT FACTS:
  1. The work on the Gym is a continuation of the emergency work from the freeze this winter.
  2. The work on the School is part of our yearly maintenance (our maintenance department has been replacing parts that are failing).  The repairs will be in the area under the kindergarten room that has been patched a few times this year.
All work at both locations will be identified using a cost code that allows us to track the costs for CIP reimbursement if and when we get a new system.
