2. Land Acknowledgement
Description:
Truth and acknowledgment are critical to building mutual respect and connection across differences. Please take a moment to consider the many legacies of violence, displacement, migration, and settlement that bring us together here today. The Parkrose Board of Education begins this effort by acknowledging that we are gathering on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Chinook, Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Cowlitz, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River in the Portland area. We pay respect to their elders past and present. We acknowledge them as the past, current and future caretakers of this land.

Subject:
5.C. October is also Coming Out Month
Description:
Parkrose School District recognizes October 2022 as National Coming Out Month. Coming out is a dangerous, difficult, powerful process...one that we do many times during our lives. According to the Trevor Project's 2022 National Survey, 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered suicide during the past year. Nearly 1 in 5 transgender and nonbinary youth attempted suicide and LGBTQ youth of color reported higher rates than white peers. An affirming school environment makes a difference. The Parkrose Board of Education pledges our whole-hearted support for LGBTQ youth and families. We celebrate the fabulous strengths, beautiful gifts and brilliant diversity of our queer and transgender bodies.
