1.A. 2011 Duluth East Daredevils Robotics Team Demonstration

Tim Velner and the 2011 Duluth East Daredevils Robotics Team who just recently returned from St. Louis where they competed at the National level, recapped their season and shared a demonstration with Archie, their robot.  They also shared information about plans for next year's Robotics Team at East and the new Robotics Team at Denfeld.
1.B. Head Start State Review Findings and Follow-up Response

Pam Rees, Director of Head Start, presented information on her written response to the findings of the Minnesota Department of Education's Department of Compliance and Assistance, which resulted from their Onsite State Head Start Monitoring Review that took place on February 1 and 2, 2011.

2.A.1) Minnesota Department of Education Success for the Future Program Grant Application

Terry Smith, Director of Indian Education, has applied for the Success for the Future Program Grant from the Minnesota Department of Education in the amount of $69,455.  Funds from this grant when awarded will be used to support the Duluth Public Schools Indian Education Program including salary/benefits, supplies/postage/printing, student activities, and in-district travel.

2.B. Growing Up Healthy:  Kids and Communities Partnership Agreement

Keith Dixon shared information on the Growing Up Healthy:  Kids and Communities Partnership Agreement that was entered into on May 26, 2011, and which will continue through the planning phase of the initiative (one year).  If at such time a three-year implementation grant is awarded through the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, the Partnership Agreement will be renewed.

3.A.1) 2011-12 State Head Start Grant Application

Pam Rees, Director of Head Start, presented the 2011-12 Duluth Public Schools State Head Start Grant Application for review and approval as required by the Minnesota Department of Education.
3.A.2) 2010-11 Duluth Public Schools Head Start Community Assessment Presentation

Pam Rees, Director of Head Start, presented information on the required Community Assessment of the Duluth Public Schools Head Start Program.  This assessment is compiled and updated by Head Start staff using community trends, population figures, poverty rates, housing information, etc. to guide their decision-making process.
3.A.3) Duluth Public Schools Self-Assessment Action Plan Presentation

Pam Rees, Director of Head Start, presented the Duluth Public Schools Self-Assessment Action Plan, which is the end result of their required self-assessment process.  This process involves parents, staff, and community members and is used to shape goals and determine areas needing improvement within the Program.
3.B. Resolution E-6-11-2894 - Acceptance of Grant Awards to Duluth Public Schools

Attached is Resolution E-6-11-2894 - Acceptance of Grant Awards to Duluth Public Schools, to accept and approve grant awards for the following organizations:

Duluth Superior Community Foundation - Duluth Public Schools Fund
3.C. 2011-12 LEA Representative

Terri Huttel, Curriculum Coordinator, is recommended for authorization to act as the LEA Representative in filing application for funds as provided under Public LAW 103-382 for the 2011-12 school year.
3.D. Policy 5085 - Student Discipline Policy

Bill Gronseth presented recommended revisions to Policy 5085 - Student Discipline Policy for the first reading.
3.E. New Policy 5090 - Use of Cell Phones, Digital Imaging Devices, and Other Personal Electronic Devices

Bill Gronseth presented the recommended new Policy 5090 - Use of Cell Phones, Digital Imaging Devices, and Other Personal Electronic Devices for the first reading.
3.F. Extended Trip Requests

The following extended trip requests are submitted for approval:

STC FCCLA/HERO students will travel to Anaheim, California from July 9-15, 2011 to compete in the STAR Student Event Leadership Conference Sessions, which they pre-qualified for.  The cost of the trip is $1,378 per person and will be funded through student fees, fund-raising activities, and grant dollars.

Fifth grade students from Lakewood Elementary traveled to Camp Miller for an end of the year celebration on June 8-9, 2011.  The total cost of the trip was $2,600 and was funded through student fees and donations.
