Description:
1. MCA's will go from March 14th through May 11th. We will also have the final Fastrbridge assessments that have been ongoing throughout the year and will end around May 19th. 2. March 20th is Region VI Day at the Capitol. 3. Bills of particular interest that have been discussed the last couple of weeks include the following: Bill introductions of interest SF1881: Increasing the general education basic formula allowance; directing money to class size reduction; appropriating money. SF1884: Increasing safe schools revenue; providing state aid. SF1984: Establishing the air ventilation program for public school buildings; authorizing grants; appropriating money. SF2017: Modifying compensatory revenue; changing the revenue uses; encouraging best practices; increasing the percentage of compensatory revenue that must stay at each school site; requiring a report on eliminating paper forms. HF1970: Modifying the growth factor for adult basic education aid; increasing the maximum contact hour rate; appropriating money. HF2100: Establishing the air ventilation program for public school buildings; authorizing grants; appropriating money. HF2114: Requiring "Erin's Law" personal safety instruction. Dates to remember March 10: Committees must act favorably on bills in the house of origin. March 24: Committees must act favorably on bills, or companions of bills, that met the first deadline in the other body. April 4: Committees must act favorably on major appropriation and finance bills. 4. We should have a discussion on what we would like to do as a follow up on our Strategic Plan process. A recommended option includes completing a school board self-evaluation. Other options would be a general mid-year or end of the year check in. It would be best to have a workshop to go over this process with MSBA sometime in the next month or two. 5. MASA/MASE Spring Conference is on March 9-10 in person. Carla and I are registered and plan to attend the conference. 6. If you are planning on attending graduation on May 26 in the evening, please let Angel know. |

6. AMEND 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR
|
|
Description:
MN Statute 120A.41 sets a required number of days and hours for students. Becker School District Policy 602, Article IV, Subd. C states that proposed changes in the school day shall be subject to review and approval by the school board.
With the recent inclement weather days, contracted staff days must be made up. Students in grades 1-11 require 165 days of school. Students need the following minimum hours in grade K need 850; 1-6 needs 935; 7-12 needs 1020. To ensure we are above the required hours, I recommend seniors final day to be Friday, May 26. 2023 and, require staff to make up their day on Monday, June 5, 2023. We will work with administration and involved staff to develop a plan for this make-up day. |
