On February 8, 2024, Miss Natural State Teen, Mallory Stuckey, appeared before the State Board and shared her platform about sun safety. Today, via resolution, the State Board officially recognizes May 6-10, 2024, as Sun Safety Week in Arkansas public schools. 

Two school districts are requesting waivers of Ark, Code Ann. § 6-10-106 (a)(1)(A) which requires school districts to begin school on or after the Monday of the week in which August 19 falls and no earlier than August 14 or later than August 26.

Siloam Springs requests a waiver for Standard for Accreditation 1-A.5 Class Size. 
 

The Smackover-Norphlet School District is requesting a waiver of Standard for Accreditation 4-B.2.

Standard for Accreditation 4-B.2 requires that each "Each public school district superintendent shall meet the licensure requirements in accordance with the laws of the State of Arkansas and the rules of the division unless the public school district has a licensure exception in accordance with the laws of the State of Arkansas and the rules of the division. (D/C)."

Ark. Code Ann. § 6-17-309 requires local school districts to secure a waiver when classrooms are staffed with unlicensed teachers for longer than 60 days. Requests were approved for 37 school districts for a total of eight additional licensure plans, 17 emergency teaching permits, and 51 long-term substitutes.

Arkansas Better Chance is requesting to relocate seven self-relinquished ABC center-based slots to ABC programs with ABC eligible children on their wait list. The two ABC pre-k programs receiving additional slots have space in their current pre-k classrooms to serve the additional ABC qualifying children for the 2023-2024 program year. This reallocation of slots will expand the availability of ABC funding to ABC programs to provide early childhood services to qualifying families and children in their community.

The Professional Licensure Standards Board requests the State Board of Education order a Permanent Revocation and assess a $500 fine.
