Rationale:

Members of the Killingly community are encouraged to share their thoughts with the Board of Education and are invited to do so during this segment of the meeting. When appropriate to do so, members of the Board and the administration may respond to comments. However, in consideration of those in attendance and in an effort to proceed in a timely manner, follow-up discussion may need to take place outside of the meeting setting.

5.A. CABE Student Leadership Awards
Rationale:

The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education, (CABE) Student Leadership Awards Program is awarded to one male and one female student from high school and middle school and is open to all CABE member school districts. Last year 422 deserving students, received this award.

The criteria for this prestigious award  are for students who exhibit exemplary leadership skills and criteria for this award was established by a subcommittee of the CABE Board of Directors.

School administrators are requested to ask their staff  for the names of students who exhibit the following leadership skills.

  • Willingness to take challenges
  • Capability to make difficult decisions
  • Concern for others
  • Ability to work with others
  • Willingness to commit to a project
  • Diplomacy
  • Ability to understand issues clearly
  • Ability to honor commitment

CABE CONGRATULATES AND ENCOURAGES THESE STUDENTS  TO BE TOMORROW'S LEADERS, THEY ARE OUR FUTURE!

Killingly students who received the 21st Annual CABE Leadership Awards are: KHS seniors, Cameron Chahanovich and Abigail (Bryce) Teczar and KIS  8th grade students,  Sarah Roberts and Kaleb Watson.

Rationale:
Mary Bromm, the Town's Community Development Administrator and the Permanent Building Committee has advised that the Board of Education must make the three recommended motions below, as requested by the State's Department of Administrative Services, Office of School Construction Grants.  There  are several  required signatures , including the Superintendent's and BoE Chair on Forms  SCG-042, Request for Review of Final Plan  for each roofing project at GECC, KMS and KCS.

Motion for Tuition for grades k-8

that the Board approve the KPS tuition rate for grades K-8 for $11,316 for the 2017-18 school year.

 

Motion for BASP and SCORE Rates

that the Board approve the 2017-18 rates for BASP and SCORE programs as outlined in the attachment and as presented.

Rationale:
IDEA Special Education Assistance Grant ($624,797.00)and IDEA Preschool Education Grant  $32,033.00, totaling $656,830.00. This is an on-going, entitlement grant.
