8.A. Appointment of Board Member to 2017-18 Scholarship Ad-Hoc Committee
Rationale:
There are three long-standing Board of Education Scholarship Trusts. In early June, a scholarship committee meeting occurs to review applications and determine monetary scholarship awards to graduating students and collegians for the upcoming academic year. At least one BOE member participates in this process in addition to the superintendent,  KHS guidance department staff, and clergy or a representative from  two local churches.  The meeting takes place during school hours, and last approximately one hour. It is important to note that committee members not be relatives or have personnel interest with students who have applied.

:
10. Executive Session for Discussion of Non-Renewal of Non-Tenured Teachers
:
11. Action for Non-Renewal of Teacher(s) for the 2017-18 School Year
Rationale:

In accordance with Connecticut General Statutes 10-151(b), the Board must act to non-renew the employment of any teacher not offered a contract for the following school year.  This first step is essentially a procedural formality necessary to start this process.  The board vote must occur before May 1, 2017.

At this point in time, the only non-renewals for board action are for long-term substitute teachers. The non-renewal process is really only reminder making it clear that the contract in place was for this year only.
