5.A. Recogniton of CAPSS Superintendent's Student Award Recipients
Rationale:

On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, Killingly hosted the Annual Northeast Area Superintendents Association/Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents Student Award Program.

This event is designed to allow superintendents to directly award certificates of recognition to students based on academic achievement (relative to ability), service to the community and involvement in school activities.  The program allows the superintendent to move beyond the usual achiever; it allows a degree of discretion and the recipients could be students who might not otherwise be recognized for routine academic awards.

Principals from KMS, KIS and KHS were asked to select two (2) students from each school to receive this award. This years' selected students were;

Erica Arpin and Fernando Torres-Heredia - Grade 4

Abigail Driscoll and Nicholas Flynn- Grade 8

Cameron Chahanovich and Olivia Swanson-Grade 12

:
5.B. Recognition of Courtney Cardinal, KHS Agricultural Teacher and students
Rationale:

Killingly Agricultural Education Program students in the Natural Resources and Environmental career pathway are learning about our use of natural resources and the impact we have on our environment. These students are studying wildlife, forestry, water, soil, sustainable agriculture, conservation, pollution and energy in preparation for careers and college study in environmental science and its related fields. Each year, juniors and seniors who complete the pathway take the statewide CTE assessment that is intended to evaluate their progress towards the Connecticut Career and Technical Education performance standards and competencies. This past year, Killingly students whose focus is in Natural Resource in the Agricultural Program, were the highest performing in the state! The eleven students (*2 of whom are collegians)  who took the statewide CTE assessment were;

Victoria Bryer, Gabbriel Burrows, Andrew Duval, Cierra-Jade Heath, Savanah Kyllonen, Joshua Lancey, Alex LeBlanc, Nicholas Perreault, Courtney Robicheau. Collegians:*Averi Walch and *Devin Bouchard.
