7.B. 2015 CAPSS Superintendent's Student Award Recipients
Rationale:

Killingly held the Annual Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents, (CAPSS)  Northeast Area Superintendents' Student Awards on December 3, 2015.

Fifty-two students from surrounding towns  were selected by teachers,  principals and their superintendent's to receive this award. The award is given to students whose accomplishments and activities go far beyond academic success and include service and leadership, thus making them role-models for other students.

This year six students from Killingly received this award. They were;

From KMS, 4th graders, Ian Cathell and Jocelyn Crowley.

From KIS, 8th graders, Alyssa Gaudreau and Christopher Pawul.

From KHS,  seniors Bernice Boateng and Joseph Santese, III.

:
13.D.1. Second Reading of Policy #5113 Student, Attendance/Excuses/Dismissal
Speaker(s):
Alexis
Rationale:

Policy #5113 was discussed and reviewed at a policy sub-committee meeting on Oct. 19. Public Act 15-225 requires Boards of Education to monitor and address absenteeism rates  by establishing attendance review teams and report annually to the Commissioner of Education the number of truant and chronically absent students.

Language in this policy codifies what Killingly is already doing.

:
13.D.2. Second Reading of Policy 5131-Students-Conduct-Discipline
Speaker(s):
Alexis
Rationale:
If the Board adopts the version of CABE’s most recent Policy 5131, then that policy could replace current Killingly Policy 5131 and the Board could also repeal current Killingly Policies 5114 and 5144, as the new 5131 would cover those subjects as suggested by Shipman and Goodwin
:
13.D.3. Second Reading of Policy 1331-Community Relations-Smoke Free Environment
Rationale:
Public Act 15-206 imposes restrictions on the use of “electronic nicotine delivery systems” and “vapor products” (e-cigarettes) in certain establishments and public areas that are similar to existing restrictions on smoking in such areas. In doing so, it prohibits the use of e-cigarettes in state buildings, restaurants, places serving alcohol, schools, child care facilities, and health care facilities, among other areas.
