H. Cafeteria Flooring     ACTION
Description:
We are still not happy with the flooring of the cafeteria.  At this time, I think it's time to move forward with Plan B.  Omni has agreed to cover the cost of putting down VCT flooring.  The idea was proposed of instead installing an epoxy flooring.  The additional cost would be roughly $21,000 our district would be responsible for paying.  There is belief we would recover this cost by the amount of time and product we put toward waxing.  I asked Omni for a breakdown of epoxy verus vct and you can see the information below.  I would prefer to go the VCT route but wanted to bring this to the board for discussion.

Epoxy:
  1. One of the more expensive cost per sqft floors
  2. CANNOT be waxed
  3. 20-30 yr life
  4. Flake colors will not fade over time
  5. Some complain the texture makes this floor hard to sweep. If not cleaned regularly, the texture will collect dirt and make look faded and dingy.
  6. Where floor drains are present, epoxy can be hosed clean.
  7. Holds up well to floors with under slab moisture issues
  8. Almost any cleaning product can be used on it

VCT
  1. One of the most cost effective floors available
  2. MUST be waxed and stripped regular (yearly for most facilities)
  3. 20-30 year life if waxed regularly and you do not have moisture under your slab
  4. Tile will fade or lose color over time
  5. Easy to clean/sweep/mop when waxed
  6. Cannot be hosed down
  7. Does not hold up well to floors with under slab moisture issues
  8. Almost any cleaning product can be used on it
