The Board of Education received thank you cards from the family of Shelly Murphy and Glen Smith for the memorial plants sent during the loss of their loved ones.

At this time, the President of the Board of Education will recognize visitors and ask if any citizen of the community is interested in speaking to members of the Board of Education. Time allowed will generally be limited to three minutes for each individual, unless waived by the President. All individuals who wish to address the Board of Education must sign up in advance. The President may limit the opportunity to address the Board in cases where a person has previously addressed the Board on the same or related subject. Issues brought to the Board prior to being channeled through the proper chain of command will be referred back to the appropriate level.

The Board of Education received a commercial FOIA request from SmartProcure which was responded to in the appropriate timeframe.   

It is recommended that the minutes from the March 20, 2023 regular meeting be approved.
 

It is recommended that the Treasurer’s Report for March 2023, be approved subject to audit.

 

It is recommended that the Board of Education approve the payment of bills listed, received during the month of February 2023 to be paid during the month of March 2023, and quick pays during the month of March 2023.

Work hours for Maria Barron’s position as a general kitchen helper at Glenview (South Kitchen) have been increased from 5.75 hours to 6.5 hours per day, effective April 3, 2023.

Janice Cummings work hours as a bus monitor were increased from 4 hours per day to 6 hours, effective January 2, 2023.

Jaycie Cline has requested unpaid leave from her responsibilities as an instructional aide at Hillcrest Elementary.  She is requesting the following dates:  02/17/2023, 02/27/2023, 02/28/2023, 03/06/2023, 03/08/2023, 03/09/2023, 03/20/2023, 03/21/2023, 03/22/2023, and 4/11/2023.
Somia Yousif has requested unpaid leave from March 23 to March 26 2023.  Ms. Yousif works as an instructional aide at Ridgewood Elementary.

May Turner has submitted a letter of resignation from employment effective April 14, 2023.

Craig Mueller has submitted a letter of resignation, for the purpose of retirement, effective June 30, 2023.  Mr. Mueller has been employed as a custodian at Bowlesburg and retires with ten years of district service.

Alexandra Wilson and Jennifer Block, instructional aides at Glenview Middle School, are recommended for dismissal effective immediately for absences without leave.

Enclosed with the Agenda Information are the March 2023 Activity Fund Report, the Budget Summary Expense Report, and the Budget Summary Revenue Report for March 2023.

 

The district previously used Bridges mathematics for grades K-5 and Illustrative for grade 6-8. However, the Math committee found that Bridges was not well-organized around specific standards, making it challenging to assess student progress. On the other hand, Illustrative is very standards-driven, with each unit focusing on one to two standards, making it easier for the district to focus on standards-based reporting and assessing. The district then gave all classroom teachers, special ed teachers, and co-teachers a chance to vote, with 95% voting in favor of switching to illustrative. The Math Committee then presented their experience and data to the district Administration, and they agreed together that illustrative would be a better fit. The Administration recommends adopting illustrative mathematics for grades K-5.
