Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5 through May 9, 2014.  Teachers shape the minds of our children and our future.  Many of our teachers are listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors. There really are no words to express gratitude for all they do.  Our teachers make a huge difference in the lives of our students!
Subject:
8.b.5) Public Act No. 55 of 2014
Description:
As part of a nationwide program to honor veterans Public Act No. 55 of 2014 amended Public Act 181 of 2001 to allow school districts to offer high school diplomas to certain World War II veterans, Korean conflict veterans and Vietnam era veterans who left high school early to serve the country in time of war.  These veterans sometimes did not have the opportunity to continue their high school education after completing  their service.  Upon returning from military service, these veterans may have been too old to return to school or they may have had family and work responsibilities that did not allow them to complete their high school education.  Under Michigan law, a school district may grant a diploma to a veteran who left high school to serve if the statutory criteria are met.  Applications for this process will be available through the board of education office.
