Description:
In 2015 Mr. Woody signed an electricity contract with the GLO for Vernon ISD that spans from 2019 to 2022.
During the last week of this year’s legislative session in Austin, Governor Abbott signed into law House Bill 2263, which removed the authority of the GLO to sell retail electricity to other political sub-divisions in the state, ending the program known as the State Power Program. The district’s energy advisor 5’s interpretation of the law is that the GLO will continue to serve and honor all contracts executed prior to May 20th, 2019 through the expiration date of these contracts. The law also has specific language that allows any of prior agreements to be renewed, but no renewed agreements can extend beyond the sunset date of January 1, 2024. Since the contract that Vernon ISD has in place ends in 2022 the district is in a good position and no action is needed but we wanted to update the board on this matter. |
