3.1. SCOTY Award Winners:
What is a SCOTY Award?(Citizen of the Year Award) The SCOTY Award recognizes students that have been chosen by their schools as ‘good school citizens and models for others to emulate.” Grades and activities are important considerations, but only a small part of the selection process. The school principal and teachers use those criteria to nominate one student per year to receive the SCOTY Award.

Special Recognition to the following student:
- Jax Reyes -
wrote an essay entitled “Native American Residential Schools: A Turning Point” which won the American Indian History Award, given in recognition of outstanding scholarship in American Indian History.


Special Recognition to the following three students who created a tri-fold exhibit entitled “The Trail of Tears” which earned a high score and advanced to the Illinois History Day state competition in Springfield in April.

3.3. Melinda Optie - Roy School - Teacher - Recognition to our distinguished teacher, Melinda Optie, who was awarded with The Meritorious Service Award!!!! This award is presented to those who shaped their school community for the better. These educators frequently employ their talents and passions, but also strive to be of service in unfamiliar domains. Melinda has taken on leadership opportunities and her accomplishments are known and valued by multiple populations: her colleagues, students, parents and school leaders. This is a tremendous honor for Roy School and Mannheim District 83!
