BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Rick Sansted will share with the board the "206 Points of Pride."  The persons being recognized this month are as follows:

Maggie Cauthren and Marie Linow both passed their Servsafe class to become Food Safety Certified.

Football coach Mike Empting was named Section 8AAAAA Head Coach of the Year.

The Football Team was the State AAAAA Prep Bowl Runner Up. They also earned a Team Academic Gold Award.

Individual football players were also given honors for the year:
  • Zach Anderson - Prep Bowl Most Valuable Teammate
  • Evan Kludt - District Receiver of the Year, Star Tribune All State
  • Daniel Jackson - District Special Teams Player of the Year, Academic All State, Star Tribune All State
  • Chase Thompson - District Quarterback of the Year, District Offensive Player of the Year, MN Vikings All State, MaxPreps MN Football Player of the Year, MN Gatorade Player of the Year, Mr. Football Finalist
  • Jack Morissette - District Defensive Lineman of the Year

School Board Service:
  • Dave Anderson has served the students and staff of Alexandria Public Schools for 20 years
  • Pam Carlson has served the students and staff of Alexandria Public Schools for 26 years
We would like to extend our gratitude to the two of them for the time and energy dedicated to making our school district the best it can be and wish them well in their future endeavors.

The administration recommends the board approve the revenue and expenditures reports for the month of November 2024.

V.D. APPROVE PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Personnel recommendations are made monthly. The conditional offers of employment are subject to successful completion of a criminal background check and I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, and where applicable, the issuance of the required license.

The administration recommends the board approve the personnel recommendations as presented on the following pages.

V.E. APPROVE SUBMISSION OF GRANT APPLICATIONS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The administration recommends that the school board approve the submission of the following:
 
  • In partnership with the City of Alexandria, Alexandria Public Schools will submit an application for a portion of a Safe Routes to School Grant aimed at improving the intersection in front of Voyager Elementary school to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the road


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the school board approve the resolution to submit the grant applications and donation requests.

V.F. ADOPT RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT DONATIONS AND GRANTS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As per district policy, the board is required to approve the submission and acceptance of donations and grants to the district that exceed $1,000.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the school board approve the attached resolution accepting grants and donations to the school district.

V.G. APPROVE EXTENDED FIELD TRIPS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As per district policy, the board is required to approve all extended field trips that involve one or more overnight stays.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends that the school board approve the following extended field trip:
  • The Robotics Team is requesting permission to travel to Minneapolis, MN on January 15-17, 2025 to raise STEM awareness and promote middle school robotics as a school sport.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As per district policy, the board is required to approve all fundraising activities.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration is recommending that the school board approve the following fundraiser:
  • The AAHS Music programs will request donations for the music programs from family and friends to help with costs for attending festivals, taking field trips and help with unforeseen instrument repairs.

The following policies received a first reading at the November 2024 board meeting:

      • Policy 808 - Naming New Facilities
      • Policy 809 - Naming Rights


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board adopt Policies 801, 805, 807, 808 and 809.

V.K. APPROVE SCHOOL DISTRICT AGREEMENTS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Annually, the school board approves educational agreements between the District and various consultants, agencies and service providers.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board approve the following agreements:
  • Department Clinical Affiliation Agreement between the University of North Dakota and Alexandria Public Schools beginning December 16, 2024 through December 15, 2029
  • Clinical Experience Teaching Affiliation Agreement between the University of Minnesota - Crookston and Alexandria Public Schools beginning January 6, 2025 through January 6, 2029
  • Non-Continuation Participation Agreement between Zion Lutheran School and Alexandria Public Schools for the 2024-2025 school year
  • Partnership Agreement between United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties and Alexandria Public Schools upon execution of the agreement and continuing indefinitely until terminated by either of the parties

The 2025-2026 AAHS Curriculum and Program Modifications/Course Changes received a first reading at the November 2024 board meeting.

The administration recommends the board adopt the 2025-2026 curriculum/program changes as presented.

V.M. ADOPT RESOLUTION FOR CONSENT TO USE OF PROPERTY

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Douglas County intends to construct a library on a portion of the property that used to house Jefferson High School.  The Deed for said property contains a restriction that prohibits the use of this property for kindergarten through twelfth grade educational purposes.  Douglas County has requested that the School District execute a Consent to Use for purposes of confirming that Douglas County’s anticipated use of a portion of the property is not prohibited by the restriction contained in the Deed. The following pages provide a copy of the Resolution for Consent to Use of Property and corresponding exhibits.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board adopt the Resolution for Consent to Use of Property.

V.N. APPROVE NOMINATION FOR LAKES COUNTRY SERVICE COOPERATIVE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Lakes Country Service Cooperative has four seats up for election for their Board of Directors. The Alexandria Public Schools School Board intends to nominate Maureen Eigen to be placed on the ballot for the Lakes Country Service Cooperative Board of Directors.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board approve the nomination of Maureen Eigen for the Lakes Country Service Cooperative Board.

The following pages provide an overview of the curriculum and program modifications being proposed at the Discovery Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year.  These modifications were developed and are being presented per district policy.

RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board certify the 2024 payable 2025 property tax levy in the amount of $18,257,748.93 broken down as follows:
 
  • General Fund                                   $ 10,485,313.64
  • Community Service Fund               $      698,136.40
  • Debt Service Fund                          $   6,353,698.89
  • OPEB Debt Service Fund              $      720,600.00
