Description:
In reference to Board Policy BDDH, PUBLIC COMMENT AT BOARD MEETINGS

The School Board normally accepts public comment only at its regularly scheduled meetings. Members of the public who wish to address the Board of Education should notify the Superintendent, Board Chairperson or Board Secretary prior to the meeting. Public comment is not normally accepted at Special Meetings/Work Sessions. Questions asked by the public, when possible, will be answered immediately by the chair or referred to staff members for reply. Questions requiring investigation may, at the discretion of the chair, be referred to the superintendent for response at a later time.

Speakers may offer objective criticism of district operations and programs, but the Board will not hear complaints concerning individual district personnel. The chair will direct the visitor to the appropriate means for Board consideration and disposition of legitimate complaints involving individuals. See Board Policy KL, PUBLIC COMPLAINTS AND PUBLIC COMPLAINTS PROCEDURES.

The School Board welcomes participation in each Board Meeting during public comment.

Individuals addressing the Board are asked to provide:
  • Submit Intent To Speak card prior to the start of Regular Session - refer to Board policy BDDH-AR.
  • Statements should be brief and concise, please limit comments to three (3) minutes - a 15 second notification will be given before the completed 3 minutes.
  • Announce your name before speaking.
  • Discussion in regard to any individual district staff member will not be allowed - refer to Board policy KL.
  • Be courteous of others and follow board established procedures for the meeting.
