6.A. The Glen Crest Student Spotlight recognizes Glen Crest Theatre’s Fall Lip Sync Battlers: the two winning teams as chosen by Glen Crest staff judges and by audience choice. Seventh grade act the Downpour Divas, featuring Allie Breault, Briana Mahan, and Bela Roy, was selected as the winning act, receiving a golden microphone award for their “Umbrella” medley. Sixth grade act Sea Cats, featuring Mackenzie Knox, Madison Knox, Emma Popovich, and Cam Dieter, were honored with the audience choice award for their “Teen Beach Movie”-inspired performance. Thank you to our staff coordinators, Mr. Sam Koppitz and Mrs. Amanda Hope, our volunteer staff and student judges, and our volunteers who helped make this event a success. The Lip Sync Battle is a fundraiser for the Glen Crest Theatre program.
6.B. Throughout October, National Principal Appreciation Month, CCSD 89 recognizes the dedicated leaders who help our schools thrive: Dr. Jessica Langman at Briar Glen, Dawn McCray at Arbor View, Amber Nickel at Parkview, Kristen Ulery at Westfield, and Sammy Smith and Assistant Principal Matt Boeing at Glen Crest. Our principals play an essential role in creating welcoming school communities where students can learn, grow and succeed, while supporting the staff who make that success possible. The district and Board of Education extend our sincere gratitude to these leaders for their dedication, care and commitment to our students, staff and families. Thank you, principals, for everything you do each day.
6.C. CCSD89's Early Childhood Program has earned the Gold Circle of Quality through ExceleRate Illinois, the highest recognition awarded to early learning programs in the state. The Gold Circle is awarded only to programs that have demonstrated excellence across all 17 quality standards. This achievement reflects the learning experiences, caring relationships, and strong instructional practices our youngest students receive every day, and is a testament to the dedication of our entire Early Childhood team. A special thank you to Julia Spencer, PreK Teacher; Emma-Leigh Strock, School Psychologist; Chris Gillis, retired PreK Teacher; and Jennifer Whitehead, PreK Administrative Assistant, whose leadership and countless hours of work helped guide the program through the rigorous review process.
