6.A. The Briar Glen Student Spotlight features the Fantasy Football Club, which includes 4th and 5th grade students and is a fun, structured group where students create and manage their own teams using real NFL players. Students meet once per week to set lineups, talk about player performance, and make simple decisions like trades or pickups.  The focus is on learning and participation, with easy rules and support from a teacher. Students built teamwork, sportsmanship, and basic math and decision-making skills.
6.B. Congratulations to the Glen Crest math team on completing a successful season. The team earned a second-place finish at the Marmion regional math competition, third at the IMSA regional competition, and fifth at the St. Francis regional competition. At the final competition of the year, which was only for eighth graders, Glen Crest swept the top three spots: Oliva Loftsgaarden took first, Reya Thakkar was second, and Ellie Koger was third. Additionally, seventh-grade student Wesley Bohmbach qualified for the individual state competition and finished 30th overall.
Math team members are eighth graders Annabelle Cozza, Olivia Loftsgaarden, Ellie Koger, Joshia Kurdiya, Dania Sultan, Dilan Thakkar, Reya Thakkar, Skylar Usalis; seventh graders Wesley Bohmbach and Krish Uppal; and sixth graders Kevin Hageman, Lucas Suciu, and Harshith Valluri. The math team coach is Monica Shekar.
6.C. Community Consolidated School District 89 is honoring community members who give back to students and staff members through their volunteer service. This month, the district is celebrating Dave Johnston – a CCSD 89 resident, parent, and bagpipe player. Johnston is a two-time world champion bagpipe player who has performed all over the world for more than 40 years. Even with his busy professional schedule, Johnson has made time to play at school Veterans Day ceremonies, 9/11 remembrance events, and the district’s cultural fair. Johnston has added dignity and excitement to these important events by sharing his time and talents with students.
