BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Rick Sansted will share with the board the "206 Points of Pride."  The persons being recognized this month are as follows:

Ning Zhang has moved into the finalist standings in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarship winners will be chosen over the next several months.

PJ Vanderheiden became the 2026 Regional Spelling Bee Champion and will travel to Washington, DC to compete in the Scripps National Bee.

Elementary Spelling Bees were held over the last month, with the following winners from each school:
  • GMC:
    • 4th Grade: Champion Nash Holte and Runner Up Stella Berg; Other finalists include Esley Anderson, Natalie Mohr, Scarlett Danner and Sawyer Lehmkuhl
    • 5th Grade: Champion Finley Schmidt and Runner Up Caleb Bruzek; Other finalists include Ada Ruprecht, Riaden Luedeke, Victoria Rieber and Bailee Bradley
  • Lincoln:
    • 4th Grade: Champion Ethan Merten and Runner Up Ren Brickweg; Other finalists include Alice Ahlers, Jude Perreault, Keeran Dannhoff and Lanie Linz
    • 5th Grade: Champion Jack Krafthefer and Runner Up Greer Stumvoll; Other finalists include Myla Christopherson, Sam Jensen, Quinn Stumvoll and Logan Fischbach

The DMS 6th Grade Math Masters Team of Kajsa Sugden, Landen Larson, Connor Friday, Aikin Swaggert and Hallie Engblom took 1st place at the Regional Math Masters Competition.

Kira Johnson placed 3rd on vault and 12th overall at the State Gymnastics Meet.

Nichole Boyden received the MN Assistant Coach of the Year award for Gymnastics.

Krew Muscha was named Section 8AA Diver of the Year, took 1st place at Sections and 5th place at State.

Other State Swim & Dive qualifiers included Kyler Kavanagh, Andy Wacek, Micah Kietzmann, Luke Christenson, Keaton Dummer, Eli Wimmer and Zach Iverson.

Coach Aaron Rooney was named Section 8AA Diving Coach of the Year.

Nolan Fettig took 5th place in his weight class at the State Wrestling Tournament.

Eighth grader Luke Kelly also qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Personnel recommendations are made monthly. The conditional offers of employment are subject to successful completion of a criminal background check and I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, and where applicable, the issuance of the required license.

The administration recommends the board approve the personnel recommendations as presented on the following pages.

V.D. APPROVE EXTENDED FIELD TRIPS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As per district policy, the board is required to approve all extended field trips that involve one or more overnight stays.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends that the school board approve the following extended field trips:
  • The French class is requesting permission to travel to France and Italy on April 7-16, 2028 to further their knowledge of the French language and culture and to apply learned skills and explore ancient Roman civilization.
  • The HOSA team is requesting permission to travel to St. Cloud, MN on March 9-11 2026 to compete in the State Competition.
  • The Robotics Team is requesting permission to travel to Winona, MN on March 3-5, 2026 to receive recognition for their development of the official FIRST driver station ramps.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Pursuant to Policy 208, Article IV.D., a policy that is modified because of a legal change over which the school board has no control may be approved at one meeting at the discretion of the school board. The following policies contain legal revisions reflective of laws enacted in the 2024 Minnesota Legislative Session:
 
      • Policy 503 - Student Attendance
      • Policy 515 - Protection and Privacy of Pupil Records
      • Policy 530 - Immunization Requirements
      • Policy 615 - Testing Accommodations, Modifications and Exemptions for IEPs, Section 504 Plans and English Learner (EL) Students
      • Policy 701 - Establishment and Adoption of School District Budget


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board adopt Policies 503, 515, 530, 615 and 701.

A tentative settlement was reached between the District and the following employee group:
 
  • Food & Nutrition Services

Jessie Hjelle, Human Resources Director, will provide an overview of the work agreement.  The administration and the Personnel/Negotiations Committee are supportive of the agreements.


RECOMMENDATION:

The administration recommends the board approve the following:
  • Work agreements between the District and Food & Nutrition Services for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years
