Mr. Larry Odom was the only person to sign up to speak during Open Forum. President Brad Rosiek shared details regarding Open Forum procedures and timing. Mr. Odom shared his concerns regarding the Ag Farm and the state of condition it is currently in. He asked the board to address the issue, not only for the students interested in the program but also for the community. Additionally, he addressed the need for the Meat Lab to be put back into usage.

Enrollment totals for April were reviewed. Total enrollment is 1,063. Numbers reflect the district being down 37 students in comparison to same time last year.

X.C. Safety & Security Audit

Discussion:
Dr. Kelly Burns presented the Safety & Security Audit findings which was conducted on April 11, 2023. This audit is done by Region VIII ESC as a proactive approach to Safe and Drug Free Schools for all students and staff and satisfies the requirement by Senate Bill 11 and TEC Code 37.108 for a safety audit once every three years. Findings and recommendations were given to the district on May 9, 2023. There were no recommendations for any RISD campus, only commendations. Additionally, there was an Intruder Audit on the same day with no findings.

Discussion:
The Summer Learning Schedule and Summer Compensation for 2023 was presented by Lee Ann Corbin, Assistant Superintendent. Redwater Elementary will host a Reading Academy for students exiting Grades K-2 along with accelerated instruction in math or reading for students exiting Grade 3. Dates will be July 10-21. Redwater Junior High School will do Grade Recovery for students failing Math/ELAR on June 5-29. Redwater High School will have a Credit Recovery for core subjects on June 5-19 and Accelerated Instruction for EOC retakes from June 12-15. RISD will also host a SCI STEM Camp for Grades 3-5 and 6-8 from July 10-14 and July 17-21, respectively.

The May 2023 Facilities/Construction Update is as follows...
Redwater Intermediate School: Bathroom remodel expected to be completed the week of May 18; Band Room flooring and Doors to be completed as soon as materials arrive; Redwater Junior High School: Door to be installed the week of May 18. Two HVAC units needed to be replaced. Working on pricing; Safety & Security: Fence work is ongoing. Expect it to be fully functional by the start of the 2023-24 school year; Summer Work: RES - to repair the broken driveway at Kindergarten; RIS - Gym Roof to be replaced, general painting; RJHS - classroom painting; RHS - completion of Phase One of the brick project; Athletics - top dressing of the football field to facilitate new growth and installation of four new HVAC units; Ag Farm - bridge repair, clear field of overgrowth, mow, general clean up and burn off fence rows; Safety & Security - create "escape lanes" to the various reunification areas around the district; District - general grading and ditch cleaning to improve drainage, HVAC general tune up on all units, SPED restroom remodels. HVAC - four TIPS awarded contractors are looking at the work to be done with the Cafetorium, Field House and Classroom Units that need to be replaced. Pricing will be updated as soon as the estimates become available. Board requested to see details on HVAC units that come in, where they are replaced and the cost for that specific replacement. |
