Description:  Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Bowman for being recognized as the FISD Teacher of the Month for August. From her nomination: "Mrs. Bowman went above and beyond to help set our team up for a successful start to the school year. Before we even returned to campus, she thoughtfully prepared and organized important resources and identification paperwork, so everything was ready and easily accessible when students arrived. She continues to be an incredible teacher, teammate, and source of support. Heather has taken on the added responsibility of helping others learn the many pieces of Special Education paperwork while also stepping in wherever she is needed. She is always willing to help, answer questions, and support those around her. We are so thankful for the time, care, and teamwork she brings to FMS!"

Description:  Mr. Banfield will lead a discussion and summary of the FIRST Rating for FISD. We are proud to announce that FISD earned an Superior A Rating again this year with a score of 94.

Description:  The Board encourages comments about the district from members of the public.  Anyone who has signed up to speak in advance of the meeting in accordance with the Board procedures may do so at this time.  The Board asks that each participant's comments pertain to district business and be no longer than 5 minutes.  For any member of the public who is accompanied by a translator, your time will be doubled as required by law.  Remember that the Board may not discuss or act upon any issues that are not posted on our agenda.  In addition, the Board has adopted policies to provide prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and concerns for employees, students or their parents, and the general public.  Copies of our district policies and procedures on public comments and filing complaints are available on the district website. 

Description:  Moak Casey performed the Efficiency Audit that is required to be completed prior to a VATR Election. He will review the results of the audit and participate via zoom.

Description:  Mr. Kirkpatrick will review the agenda for the TASA/TASB txEDCON Conference in Houston from October 8-October 11.

Description:  Senate Bill (SB) 12 from the 89th Legislative Session addressed parental rights in public education and requires certification of compliance with provisions of the Education Code regarding (1) instruction and (2) diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) duties. No later than September 30 of each year, the superintendent of a school district shall certify to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that the district is in compliance with Education Code 11.005 (prohibition on DEI duties) and Education Code 28.0022 (instructional requirements and prohibitions). The certification required the district to identify the policies and procedures required by Texas Education Code 11.005(c) and 28.0022(h) and to describe how employees and contractors were notified of these policies and procedures as well as existing policies, programs, procedures, or trainings that were altered to ensure compliance with Sections 11.005 or 28.0022. The district has already adopted TASB Numbered Updates 119, 122, 126, and 127 and has accepted TASB Policy Service's local policy recommendations as are provided in the Certificate of Compliance with Certain Laws. In addition, the FISD Employee Handbook was updated with changes related to these sections.

Description:  As previously discussed, we will need to move money from fund balance to cover the cost of installing 3-point seat belts on three buses.

Description:  As a member of IEI, we have access to their position papers. One area of concern as a district who has infused technology in the classroom, is the blanket technology bans being discussed among politicians. FISD students use the technology provided to them for educational purposes guided by the teachers in the classroom. By doing so, we are preparing our students for life after high school and the careers they may enter that require technology integration to do their work. IEI collaborated with its member districts to write this position paper that calls for using the right technology and does not support a blanket statewide screen ban. As our students are required to use computers to take state assessments and benchmark assessments, not allowing them to use their computers for assignments would put them at a disadvantage on state testing. 

Description:  The attached list of books is to be used by the libarian to teach lessons during the library rotation. They will not be added to the collection but will be used for instruction.
