7.1.j. TEAM Mentors/Cooperating Teachers Applicants
Rationale:
Teachers trained to serve as TEAM (Teacher Education and Mentoring) mentors and cooperating teachers provide assistance and support to student teachers and first year beginning teachers in the district in areas such as lesson design and classroom management and provide feedback and support in the areas of instructional planning and student assessment. Cooperating teachers are those teachers who are trained to work with student teachers. We need to increase the number of cooperating teachers in the district in order to meet the needs of student teachers. Mentors must be assigned to first-year teachers to provide mentoring and support to newly certified teachers; this program is required by the State Department of Education. Principals recruit teachers to apply to be a TEAM mentor/cooperating teachers; the applications are reviewed by the TEAM Coordinating Committee. The following teachers were approved by the TEAM Coordinating Committee and are recommended to be TEAM Mentors/cooperating teachers. Approved teachers must attend a three-day training program and update their training every three years.

Rationale:
The Board of Education agreed to waive the staff dress code for monthly dress down days that would benefit students and/or staff. Attached is this year’s list of charities and the monthly amount raised. Staff donated a total of $19,713.50 for the 2021-2022 school year.

10.1. Spanish for Heritage Speakers - First Reading
Rationale:
This is a first reading of a new course designed to meet the needs of students who speak Spanish at home. By drawing on students' cultural experiences and existing linguistic skills, this course will further develop students' proficiency in the Spanish language, placing a particular emphasis on the development of presentational, written communication and preparing them for Spanish 4. Students will explore their relationship to their Hispanic heritage by comparing their experiences to those depicted in a variety of songs, poems, and narratives. They will also explore the causes and effects of immigration, as well as global challenges. The course seeks to reinforce the value of students’ Hispanic heritage and the Spanish language, and concludes with an exploration of how those assets can play a role in their future.

10.2. Web Video Production - First Reading
Rationale:
This course will cover the concepts, tools and activities essential to web-based video production. Various software programs will be explored and incorporated into video segments. Students will become familiar with the modes of capturing digital video, shooting techniques, and web-based editing. BAIMS Course Credit: 0.5 Prerequisite: None *This course requires students access to specific technologies, including Adobe Creative Cloud/Adobe Premiere Pro. Students will also require access to digital camcorders.

Scenic Design and Construction I and II are designed to coexist. Students at both levels will follow the same topical modules. The learning targets are adapted by course to provide deeper experiences for those students who have already completed the first course in the series. This course development structure exemplifies a growth model and student leadership. This BAIMS course offers students the ability to learn the design elements and construction components necessary for theater set production. In this introductory course, students learn the basic elements of the design and construction process. Students work with students in Scenic Design and Construction II to support and develop their skills.

In 6th Grade, the Concentration Pathways include introductions to sequential art with Comics and Graphic Novels, the history of animation with Single Cell Animation, an Introduction to Graphic Design, and an Introduction to Digital Design. Strings is offered as a HS Elective at BAIMS only. This Strings class provides us the unique opportunity to serve a population of students whose interests are in the classical stringed instruments . In this class, students will learn about the Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass and how to play them. Focus will be on posture and playing position and the unique independent functions of the right and left hand. In units 5-10 students will focus on the musical skills necessary to perform on these, or any musical instrument. Units 11 & 12 will look at the historical and critical aspects of Stringed instruments and musical performance.

10.8. Songwriting - Second Reading

Rationale:
This is a BAIMS HS elective. Songwriting will give our students the opportunity to create their own songs using traditional and digital tools and instruments. Students will explore the Form of modern music identifying Intros, Verse, Chorus, bridges, and outros. Student composers will use the formal elements to create lyrics that are thematically related and fit the form of the song. Functional music theory will give students the pitch and harmonic skills to define chords and progressions that fit their song. Finale, Garage Band and Studio One are a few of the digital tools that students will use to notate and orchestrate their compositions. All of these trials and experimentations will culminate in a final composition project that they will share with their class.
