C.1. Approve Personnel Action Report
Description:
Our adopted rules of Parliamentary Procedure, Robert’s Rules, provide for a consent agenda listing several items for approval of the Board by a single motion. Most of the items listed under the consent agenda have gone through Board subcommittee review and recommendation. Documentation concerning these items has been provided to all board members and the public in advance to assure an extensive and thorough review. Items may be removed from the consent agenda and placed under new business at the request of any board member.
Action(s):
No Action(s) have been added to this Agenda Item.
Discussion:
Dr. Kathy Todd requested that the Personnel Action Report be pulled from the Consent Agenda to allow the Board to hear more about the hiring process for the candidate. Jason Weber explained the steps taken to vet the candidate and provided an overview of the process and requirements associated with the proposed hire. Dr. Kathy Todd asked whether the District would be responsible for the costs associated with changing the applicant's visa status from a J-1 to an H-1 visa. Jason Weber explained that the fee she may have heard about for changing visa status is waived for educational hires. He clarified that the overall process may cost the District an estimated $5,000. Scott McCumby asked whether the applicant would need to wait until the entire visa process was completed before beginning work. Jason Weber explained that the District would need to wait until the process is complete, but that the District is expediting the process. Dr. Kathy Todd asked whether the applicant is currently employed by another school district. Jason Weber explained that the applicant is currently working for an educational organization rather than a school district and is not under a teaching contract with her current employer. Sonya Ash-Selanoff asked whether the District intends to continue pursuing international hiring or whether this recruitment is specific to the District's current circumstances. Jason Weber clarified that international hiring is not intended to be an ongoing direction for the District and that this candidate happened to be a highly reputable international candidate. Sonya Ash-Selanoff asked for further clarification regarding the applicant's skill set and whether she would be able to teach at levels beyond elementary school if needed. Jason Weber stated that the applicant is qualified to serve as a special education teacher at any of the District's three schools and that he intends to complete the necessary paperwork to allow flexibility in placement based on the District's needs.
