Description: A. Elementary, Middle, High School, and Community Education Reports
B. Elk's Senior Students of the Month - September

Discussion:

Appelwick. Recognized Holly Martin and the Elementary leadership team for planning the dress days last week, and also thanked the high school for rescheduling the Homecoming parade as the elementary students had a lot of fun.
Wietman. Recognized the leadership skills of the middle school student council president, Megan Sweeney. She planned dress-up days, the pep fest and is working with the student council to plan the middle school dance this Friday. She has been a great person of communication between the Principal and the student council.
Whitwam. Congratulated Terri Wingness on her retirement and for her many years of service. Thanked board members, community members and staff for giving us two days of time for the Strategic Planning process. Many positives came out of the meeting.
Holst. Thanked the community members, faculty, staff and admin for attending and participating in the strategic planning process.

VII. Recognition of Visitor Business

Discussion:

Connie Adamec spoke about the difficulties of carrying family health insurance through the District.
Emily Corrin spoke about the realities of the current pay and health insurance costs in the District.
Katie Marciniak spoke about fiscal stewardship regarding District family health insurance and salary.
Linda Hare spoke regarding salary and family health insurance costs through the District.

IX. Superintendent's Discussion Items

Discussion:

Enrollment. We are down about 20 students at the middle school and about 20 students at the elementary school.
Facilities Update. The City of Hermantown talked with Whitwam about building a parking lot in the area where two garages currently sit, and running a road from the parking lot up to Hawk Circle Dr. Whitwam talked about the road being a future project and the city using all of its dollars towards the arena project. Talk if that road did go in, there would need to be a gate to close that road off.
Strategic Planning Work Session. There were 36 people in the room. Community members outnumbered staff. The group came up with seven district goals. The first meetings have been scheduled for each of those district goals.
Willie Jett, the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Education, stopped by the district.

Discussion:

Hermantown Legacy Fund. Taste of Hermantown is Thursday at the AAD Shriner's Building.
Arena Board. Talked at great length about the new arena and what it's going to look like. Still functioning well and doing well financially. Getting ready for the winter season to start. They have questions about the new arena as well.
Curriculum is meeting on Wednesday this week.
