In order to encourage more students to participate in Advanced Placement courses at the high school and take the Advanced Placement Tests, AP teachers and the high school administration have proposed increasing the weight of Advanced Placement and UConn courses an additional .5 points above the weighting of Honors courses.   In order for students to earn the additional weighting of Advanced Placement courses, they must take the corresponding Advanced Placement Test.  Currently AP and Honors courses are weighted the same.  It is the opinion of the staff that students who are interested in maintaining a high GPA often elect to take Honors courses in lieu of AP courses to avoid the risk of “hurting” their GPA status.
