I. Synthetic Turf Field Project

Rationale:

Background: This project will install a multi-purpose athletic field on the Lyme Street campus behind the high school. The project will address overuse of the existing fields, the need for additional field space for practice and games, and the lack of available water to irrigate fields. This work was advertised through an open bidding process, and four proposals were received.

Recommendation:

After consultation with Kevin Fuselier of SLR, we recommend moving forward with Mountain View utilizing the Greenfield All Sport Ultra turf fabric provided by Geo Surfaces. Not only is Mountain View the lowest bidder, but they also have years of experience and a proven track record installing synthetic turf fields. The Geo Surfaces fabric has also been used successfully with several Brockfill and Brockpad installations, including the field where the District completed a site visit. A reference check of Mountain View was successfully completed.

As the bids were well below the projected budget, we recommend that the center logo, higher safety netting system, and scoreboard alternates all be included in the project. Sufficient funds will be available for contingency.
