September 11, 2023 at 6:30 PM - Monthly Meeting

Discussion:  Christopher Rogers joined the meeting.  Mrs. Lewis presented what she was doing in each of her Language Arts classes (getting lots of writing practice) and then highlighted the projects in Creative Writing and Film Studies as well.  She is really enjoying the school and the kids are great.  

Discussion:  Mr. Gebhard thanked All American Glass for their work in getting the vehicle windows repaired.  He also thanked Randy Husted for his diligence in getting all of the clearance lights, mirrors, covers, etc. repaired / replaced on the vehicles.  There is still one bus that has not passed inspection.  

Discussion:  At 7:09 PM the meeting returned to open session.  No action taken.
 

Discussion:  A copy of the evaluation schedule for teachers was presented to the board for informational purposes. 
 

Discussion:  With the passage of S Sub for HB 2567 and H Sub for SB113, KASB has written policy JBCC Enrollment of Nonresident Students.  Prior to adoption, the school board must hold a hearing on the proposed policy.  This policy outlines the requirements for the enrollment of nonresident students, including required actions such as determining capacity, accepting applications, and admitting nonresident students.  The board set the hearing for October 9th at 6:35 PM during the regularly scheduled board meeting. 

Discussion:  Mr. Tharman shared that Mid-Continental Restoration has started on the repair of the exterior grout work.  This is estimated to be a 2 - 3 month project, providing the weather holds. This project has been in the works for the last two years with an estimated cost of $215,000/ Volleyball, football, and FFA activities are in full swing/ Homecoming activities this week/ WKLL Leadership conference is Sept. 20th/ Yearbook ad sales will continue in Phillipsburg next week, and the sophomores are doing PreACT testing over the next couple of weeks.  

Discussion:  Mr. Gebhard reported that he had conducted a Booster Rooster seatbelt program for the Grade School/ Officer Blecha and Jaida were a part of it also/ Cheer camp was well attended and those students will perform at the Homecoming pep rally/ Fourth grade will be going to Selden for Ag Day/ Volleyball and football are going/ This past week there was the annual book fair.  Mr. Gebhard shared that a suggestion was brought to him by a community member about the possibility of serving meals to senior citizens.  He had contacted the state food service personnel and had gotten mixed reactions.  After the board discussed this for a while, it was decided to have Mr. Gebhard continue to research the pros and cons of this idea.  Mr. Gebhard will update the board at the October meeting.
