1. Diversity in our Schools
Description:
A Somalian family with four children have moved to Royalton and enrolled in our schools. Two children are at the elementary and two at the MS/HS. I realize this is a demographic change for our school district that will come with challenges and require lots of time by our employees (e.g., possible ESL services, etc.). We will do the best we can to make them feel welcome and reasonably accommodate their needs, like we do all families. I'm not suggesting this demographic change is going to be easy for some of our community members. We as the school district leadership team have a legal, and in my opinion a moral, responsibility not to be discriminatory toward the children or parents. We already have different family mores than some other caucasian families in our district. There of course is an added skin color and more prominent cultural difference in this situation. |
2. Architect Fees
Description:
Please find attached comparative data on architectural fees. We looked at other school districts in our area of the state who have recently completed a construction project. Paul's 7% is not way high but I do believe there is room for negotiation. We will need to make certain apples to apples are best identified and compared. There are lots of ways to charge less and then add lots of costs. My thought is to have the assigned board committee members sit down with Paul, Mary, and me after the next facilities planning meeting on Wednesday, September 3 at 4:00 PM. |
3. Back Pay for Past Employees
Description:
A question was immediately raised by members of RESP about back pay for past employees. Mary and Kelsie looked through the data to find past practice by the Royalton School District. After not finding any clear information I suggested we contact Diane. Please find attached Diane's response to the question of back pay for employees who resigned. We're going to continue with not back paying past employees unless I hear otherwise from the board. |

5. Approval of Weekly Bills
