II.3. Extracurricular Eligibility
Description:
AZ Interscholastic Association (AIA) eligibility rules require school districts to annually determine whether or not they will permit online charter students to participate in extracurricular activities (AIA 15.3.1.2). The administrative recommendation is that the Board continue to limit extracurricular eligibility to matriculated students not concurrently enrolled in an online program outside of Mingus Union High School District, with exceptions for home schooled students.

II.4. Organization of New Club
Description:
Mr. Teague is requesting approval of an afterschool club that is meant to serve the students of MUHS that love the process of creating art. This club will be open to all students that are enrolled at Mingus, regardless as to whether or not they are enrolled in an art class.

III.2.2.1. Policy IHAMC—Instruction and Training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Description:
Instruction and Training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation has been added to the policy manual to direct school districts to offer instruction and training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as a mandatory, not a discretionary, duty. CPR instruction and training is required to be provided no later than July 1, 2019.

III.2.2.2. Policy IKF— Graduation Requirements
Description:
School districts or charter schools may voluntarily participate in the state seal of biliteracy program by notifying the Superintendent of Public Instruction of such intention. Schools will then identify the students who have met the requirements to be awarded the state seal of biliteracy, which shall be affixed to the diploma and noted on the transcript of each student who has met the requirements.Policy language pertaining to CPR Instruction and Training was also added to comply with the addition of Policy IHAMC – Instruction and Training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

III.2.3.4. Policy JICI — Weapons in School
Description:
Policy language was added prohibiting the governing board of an educational institution from adopting or enforcing any policy or rule that prohibits the lawful possession or carrying of a deadly weapon on a public right-of-way by a person or on or within a person's means of transportation. The policy also identifies the definition of what a right-of-way includes and does not include.

III.2.3.5. Policy JJJ— Extracurricular Activity Eligibility
Description:
Policy language has been added to allow pupils to wear religious or cultural accessory or hair piece while participating in an extracurricular or athletic activity if the accessory or hair piece does not jeopardize the health or safety of the pupil or any other person participating in the activity, as determined by the supervisor of the extracurricular activity or the officiant of the athletic activity.

III.2.3.6. Regulation JL-RA — Student Wellness
Description:
House Bill 2518 amended A.R.S. 36-136 relating to school gardens. This statute exempts from rules promulgated by the Director of the Department of Health Services school gardens in which a whole fruit or vegetable is grown, washed, and cut on-site for immediate consumption.

III.2.3.7. Policy JLCD — Medicines/Administering Medicines to Students
Description:
This policy states that the Governing Board directs the Superintendent to enforce regulations and procedures for the emergency administration of naloxone hydrochloride or any other opioid antagonist approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration by an employee of a school district and provides exemption from civil liability.

III.2.3.8. Policy JRR — Student Surveys
Description:
Student Surveys has been added to the policy manual as a district document code in order to describe the mandatory duties of school districts in the areas of surveys; pupil information; parental permission and informed consent; exceptions; penalties and definitions. This section should be read carefully in order to understand the scope of applicability of the statute as it relates to school district employees, students, and parents. Policy Services recommends that school districts include the statute or a district created summary of salient requirements for distribution to administrators, teachers, and other employees in staff meetings and inclusion in staff handbooks. Parents and students should be informed at the beginning of the school year and upon enrollment regarding written informed consent and other information pertaining to surveys and student information.

Description:

Description:
Policy KFAA has been removed from the ASBA Policy Manual as the more general and inclusive prohibition pertaining to smoking ARS § 36-601.01 bans smoking in all public places including public school facilities.

Description:
