Ms. Shanda Stenger, Fine Arts Supervisor
Description:
Syracuse High School theatre students worked incredibly hard to produce their fall production of “Anne of Green Gables”. Hundreds of hours were spent rehearsing, making costumes and props, painting sets, and programming lights and music. Additionally, due to Covid-19 students learned how to act with masks on, how to collaborate during online learning, share rehearsals between two different casts to accommodate alphabetical hybrid classes, and be flexible in the face of school closures and rescheduled performances. This is definitely a production students and the community will never forget!
Ms. Leia Rollins, theatre president, and Ms Brooke Hall will receive the award in behalf ot the entire theatre group tonight. Their theatre teacher is Ms. Christine Detweiler. |

1.B.3. 2021 Spelling Bee Winner – Andy Lee, Mountain View Elementary, 6th Grade

Description:
Andy Lee, a 6th grader in Ms. Bailey Ondiricek's class at Mountain View Elementary, became the 2021 Davis School District Spelling Bee Grand Prize Winner on April 22, 2021, at Clearfield High School. Andy was 1 of 3 students from Mountain View Elementary to move on to the Davis District North Semi-Final Bee. Andy progressed through 5 rounds in the semi-finals and 9 rounds in the final, out-spelling 112 super spellers, to earn his champion status. Andy was awarded a My529 Scholarship for his superb effort.

1.B.4. Adrienne Scott-Ellis - 2021 Robert “Archie” Archuleta UEA Human and Civil Rights Award

Description:
Ms. Scott-Ellis was selected by the UEA Board of Directors to receive the Robert "Archie" Archuleta UEA Human and Civil Rights Award for 2021. This UEA Human and Civil Rights Award, recognizes individuals that have provided outstanding service to education in the area of human and civil rights and engaged in human and civil rights activities that have had a community-wide impact. Her efforts starting in your classroom at Doxey Elementary School, as a certified REACH instructor in Davis School district, and the founding of "Sewing Seeds of Change" are just a few examples of her outstanding service to further the work of racial and social justice.

Lance Gillespie, a senior at Davis High School, recently received the UHSAA Spirit of Sport Award. This sward seeks to recognize those individuals who exemplify the ideals of the positive spirit of sport that represent the core mission of education-based activities and is limited to one person each year.

1.F.4. Building F2 Remodel GMP – Phase 2 (exhibit)

Description:
Work on the Building F2 Remodel project is well underway and progressing well. The second phase of the project which is the remodel of the parking lot has been bid by Stout Building Contractors. This phase will remodel the existing parking lot west of Building G4. The new configuration will re-route truck and bus traffic to the west side of the property to keep it away from the entrance to Building G4. The existing portables currently occupied by the Federal Programs Department and Fire Alarm shops will be removed to accommodate about 170 additional parking spaces. Stout Building Contractors has established a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the second phase which will be added to the first phase. Construction will begin in July and is expected to be complete in September of 2021.

[c] SB125 Open and Public Meetings Amendments - Revises language on electronic meetings to allow Board president to convene an electronic meeting without an anchor location if there is a substantial risk to the health or safety of those who could otherwise be present at the anchor location.

[a] HB81 Mental Health Days for Students - Adds language on mental or behavioral health as a valid excuse for school absences. [b] HB116 Student Attendance Amendments - Adds language prohibiting requiring documentation from a medical provider for an absence due to mental or physical illness. [c] SB 219 Truancy Enforcement Moratorium - Adds temporary language on truancy enforcement moratorium.
