1. Consideration / Approval of the Use of the Instructional Materials for the 2024-2025 School Year
Description:
Annually, the Board of Trustees must approve the certification of provision of instructional materials, which the Board approved in March 2024. Since this time, several teachers in the district have expressed interest in using the State’s Pilot Open Educational Resources (curriculum). The Open Educational Resources are free to Texas schools, but we recently learned that the Board is required to approve the use of these materials. Currently, we have four math teachers in the district piloting Eureka math, Version 2 and one teacher piloting Amplify Reading, Version 4). We are requesting approval to allow teachers to continue using those pilot materials. The new state approved list will be voted on by the State Board of Education this week and continuing the use of these materials will allow teachers to have greater insight into whether we want to adopt the final, non-pilot, versions of these materials, which will be called Bluebonnet math and Bluebonnet Reading. Continuing this pilot gives teachers insight into the design, content, and structure of the new Bluebonnet Reading and Math materials. If the district chooses to adopt the new version of these materials, once approved by SBOE, there would be significant grant opportunities and extra funding for instructional materials and professional development related to the implementation of Bluebonnet curriculum.
