V.C. Recognition of National Athletic Training Month
Presenter:
Windee Skrabanek
Description:
Help us celebrate this year’s theme: Your Protection is our Priority. Athletic trainers are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians and specialize in the prevention, emergency care, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and sport-related illnesses. The athletic trainer is the health care system for athletes and others athletic trainers are on site. They work with patients to avoid injuries; they are there when injuries happen and they provide immediate care; and they rehabilitate patients after injuries or surgery. It is a continuum of care. They know their patients well because they are at the school, in the theater or on the factory floor every day. In honor of the 17th annual national athletic training month, Temple ISD would like to recognize TISD athletic trainers Coach Windee Skrabanek, Coach Lorna Davis, Coach Mike Lefner, and Coach Steve Prentiss. During March, athletic trainers across America are being recognized for their commitment to helping people prevent injuries and stay healthy and active. Athletic trainers are health care professionals high educated and dedicated to the job at hand. Athletic trainers can be found in high schools and colleges, corporations, professional sports, the military, performing arts and clinics, hospitals and physician offices. Your Protection is their priority. Temple ISD would like to salute the following Athletic Training Students for providing quality health care for our athletes every day. 2016-2017 - Athletic Training Students: Katelynn Eckenrode, Alex Santana, Wendy Munoz, Vanessa Garza, Ciondra Howard, Dulse Luviano, Katie Richmond, Drima Sierra, Michael Coy, Kailee Milligan, Maria Office-Siokou, Yovana Perez, Ariana Placencia, Tia Jackson, Nakoeda Lara, Jaliana Matthews, Audrey Portillo. We appreciate each and every one of you. Join me in applauding the staff and student athletic trainers and in celebrating National Athletic Training Month!

VI.E.2.c. Consideration for Approval of Temple ISD Board Policy BQA (LOCAL) - Planning and Decision-Making Process-District Level
Presenter:
Scott Moger
Description:
BQA (LOCAL) addresses the requirements for the District-Level Site-Based Decision-Making committee composition, processes, and duties at the local level. In Temple ISD the District-Level Committee is referred to as the District Educational Improvement Committee (DWEIC) and is under the leadership of Dr. Karen Morgan who recommended the revisions to the policy. BQA (LEGAL) describes the legal requirements for committee membership, indicating that the committee should have parent, business, and community representation and describes who that should be. The legal description indicates that meetings must be held but does not prescribe the time of day or number of meetings. BQA (LOCAL) must adhere to the statute requirements of BQA (LEGAL) and the current local policy meets all statutes, but has expanded the number of members required making the policy harder for the District to remain compliant while not required under legal policy. Currently, our local policy indicates a minimum of three parent, business and community members and includes specific methods for communication. The recommended revisions includes reducing the local requirement to one parent, business and community member representative at the District-Level allowing for ease of compliance while at the same time not restricting to having more than one representative for each. The second revision eliminates the specific methods that the District will communicate and report meetings to the public as this is not necessary. However, the District will continue to communicate the minutes of the meetings using district technology to post and disseminate upcoming DEIC meetings and the minutes of the meeting. A red-lined copy of BQA (LOCAL) is shown in the Board Book showing the proposed change.
Recommendation: Approve proposed version of Temple ISD Board Policy BQA (LOCAL).

VI.E.2.d. Consideration for Approval of Temple ISD Board Policy BQB (LOCAL) - Planning and Decision-Making Process-Campus Level
Description:
BQB (LOCAL) addresses the requirements for the Campus-Level Site-Based Decision-Making committee composition, processes, and duties at the local level. In Temple ISD the Campus-Level Committee is the Site-Based Decision Making Committee (SBDM Committee) at each campus. Dr. Karen Morgan recommended the revisions to the policy. Like BQA (LEGAL), BQB (LEGAL) describes the requirements for Campus-Level committee. Currently, our local policy meets all the requirements, but mandates a minimum of two parent, business and community member representatives. The policy also includes specific methods for communication and that campus SBDM meetings must be held after the school day. Local campus policy indicates that district-level personnel shall be nominated and voted onto the campus SBDM committee and provides a definition of who qualifies as district-level personnel. Recommended revisions includes reducing the local requirement to one parent, business and community member representative at the Campus-Level allowing for ease of compliance while at the same time not restricting to having more than one representative for each. The second revision eliminates the specific methods that the District will communicate and report meetings to the public as this is not necessary. However, the District will continue to communicate the minutes of the meetings using district technology to post and disseminate upcoming DEIC meetings and the minutes of the meeting. The third revision deletes the qualifying definition of district-level staff. The final revision deletes the requirement that SBDM meetings be held outside the school day. The latter allows campuses to be more flexible in the scheduling SBDM meetings and does not restrict campuses from hosting meetings on days that students may be out of school, but school district employees are required to work. A red-lined
copy of BQB (LOCAL) is shown in the Board Book showing the proposed change. Recommendation: Approve proposed version of Temple ISD Board Policy BQB (LOCAL).
