6.d. LCEA Report
Description:
April Secondary Science Curriculum Adoption Team This team spent several days and hours working through different options for curriculum for the next several years. They spent time piloting different options and attended the ODE caravan with publishers to get a better understanding of what was available for the students. This is all in addition to regular teaching duties. (See Image 1) Pilot teachers included: Nat Richman, Janice Ventura, Ale Turnbull, Jerold Guthrie, Colton Blaser, Sara Pursel, and Peter Hermann Kristina Webster, Rachael Wallace, Janice Venture, Toledo High School (See Image 2) The three amazing teachers spearheaded the second Educational Field Trip over spring break taking 17 students to Amsterdam and Paris. They diligently fundraised and planned for over a year to make this amazing opportunity for our students happen! (Janice wants everyone to know that Kristina and Rachael did all the actual hard work, and she just went along as an additional chaperone.) Faith Forshee, Crestview Heights Faith has a really calm and graceful way in which she works with students. She has some challenging students but is able to get them to make progress in reading, writing, mathematics and science. I see amazing things on the walls and happening in the classroom with all subjects but especially science and social studies despite a very shortened time to do science/S.S. She is an amazing and caring mentor for new teachers and is very helpful guiding new teachers through understanding all that needs to happen and be taken care of. I have seen students from the middle and high school come into the building and be so happy to see her. Ale Turnbull, Newport Middle Ale is constantly finding new ways to engage students in science. She encourages students to interact with the content through things like labs, scavenger hunts, and many more fun games. On top of this, with the help of Aimee Thompson, she planned a "Follow the Waste" field trip where students visited both a landfill and recycling facility. Lincoln county school district is so lucky to have such a hands-on teacher.
