89th Texas Legislative Session Requirements

Policy FD & FM - Student Activities/Organizations (HB 1481)

Legislative Background:

House Bill 1481 passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session
Provides school districts with opt-out authority for certain UIL requirements
Allows local school boards greater flexibility in UIL participation decisions
Addresses concerns about mandatory participation in specific UIL activities or events

Key Provisions:

Grants board discretionary authority to opt out of UIL mandates
Maintains local control over student activity participation
Protects district autonomy in extracurricular program decisions
Does not prohibit UIL participation, only makes it optional

Policy FNCE - Student Use of Technology (SB 401)
