7.2.a. Alliance Grant 2022-2023
Rationale:
The Bristol Alliance Grant focuses on resources to support the areas of Talent, Climate, Academics, and Operations within BPS. All positions and programs help to increase academic performance and support district climate initiatives. Grant funding supports literacy coaching for teachers (5.75 literacy coaches) and support for students in grades K-3 who are reading below the Bristol reading benchmark (7.8 Instructional Support Teachers). In addition, we fund 13.5 kindergarten teachers, 6 mathematics coaches, 5.0 Library Media Specialists, 4.5 Deans, a .5 STEM Supervisor, 3 IT Specialists, a Pre-K teacher and para-educator, 4.8 SSW, a Communication and School Partnerships Director, 2 Family Liaisons, 1 Inclusion Specialist, 1 special education teacher,1 School Psychologist, 7 School Climate/Security Personnel, 2 CREC Teacher Residents, .5 CTE Teacher, a Math Intern at NEMS, substitute services, and portions of salaries in the grants office and all employee benefits associated with positions listed previously. Annually BPS submits a grant proposal to the SDE aligned to the goals of our district strategic plan and performance indicators, this year's grant award totals, $7,726,902.00. which is an $1,242,074.00 increase from FY 22. |

7.2.b. Barnes Foundation Donation to South Side School
Rationale:
The Barnes Foundation has offered to provide $15,000 in grant funding for a pilot program of academic intervention and support that will provide a tutor for our K-3 students who are not achieving at grade level.

In accordance with CT General Assembly P.A. Sec. 10 248a (https://www.cga.ct.gov/current/pub/chap_171.htm#sec_10-248a), the Bristol Board of Education voted at its meeting held on September 14, 2022, to request a transfer of funds from its general fund surplus to a separate Sinking Fund account in order to re-invest into the Bristol Public Schools. |

Rationale:
The board will discuss and take possible action regarding the temporary suspension of Board Policy 1316 entitled, Relations Between Public and School Personnel Conduct on School Property, specifically the provision regarding the consumption/possession/being under the influence of alcoholic beverages on public areas, as defined by Bristol Municipal Code 15-46, of the Bristol Arts and Innovations Magnet School, for the limited purpose of allowing a third party vendor to serve alcohol to guests, age 21 years or older, during the Mum Festival from September 23 through September 25th only.

In this course, students will learn basic drawing skills, color theory, figure and character illustration, and the different applications of illustration in sequential art, literature, advertising and editorial work. The five units are outlined below:
