Rationale:
The Adult Education Grant is submitted for approval. The state's reimbursement percentage is 53.78% or $334,131. Our first installment of 66% is $342,844 for a total Adult E budget of $676,975. A second installment will come June 1, 2021 and at that time the CSDE has indicated a minimum of 8.9% CAP.

6.2.b. Adult Education - Federal Program Enhancement Project Grant
Rationale:
Bristol Adult Education Center received a Federal Program Enhancement Project Grant for FY21 in the amount of $128,000. This grant is split between three programs: Family Literacy, Workforce Development, and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education.

8.1. Corona Virus Relief Funds

Rationale:
At the end of August, Gov. Lamont announced the commitment of Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF) to assist districts with the costs of safely reopening schools. A preliminary distribution of $130.8M to CT school districts to help offset the additional unbudgeted costs associated with reopening schools will be available. Bristol will be afforded $1,233,527. Guidelines for eligible expenditures include: 1) necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID–19); 2) expenditures not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020 (the date of enactment of the CARES Act) for the State or government; and 3) expenditures incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020, and ends on December 30, 2020. |

8.2. Update on Connecticut State Department of Education Evaluation Flexibilities

Rationale:
On August 11, 2020, the Connecticut State Department of Education shared flexibilities to the fundamental requirements of the CT Guidelines for Educator Evaluation and CT General Statute Section 10-151b. These flexibilities were provided due to the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact on the reopening of schools, and the critical importance of the social and emotional learning and well-being of students and educators during the upcoming academic year. The Professional Development and Evaluation Committee of each school district had to vote to adopt the flexibilities for their district. On September 21, Bristol PDEC met and approved these flexibilities for our Bristol Educator Evaluation and Development Plan.

9.1. Meteorology - New - Second Reading
Rationale:
The Connecticut adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards, along with the requirement of administration of the Connecticut Next Generation Science Assessment, necessitated a revision to our high school science core and elective curriculum. Meteorology is an elective course (0.5 credit) that provides students access to additional NGSS standards while engaging in rich learning around meteorology. This course encapsulates three dimensional learning that will allow students to actively engage with scientific practices and apply crosscutting concepts in order to deepen their understanding of Core Ideas in order to explain phenomena and solve problems. Students in this course learn meteorology by developing an understanding of the multiple factors that lead to weather patterns, weather formation and climate. The major topics of study include: Solar radiation, atmospheric moisture and stability, precipitation, air pressure and circulation, air masses and fronts, and changing climates. This course embeds multiple hands-on and virtual lab experiences to enhance their knowledge and class experience. Students will be expected to maintain a detailed and scientific weather journal, as well as research weather and climate events and share their findings through projects, models, written and/or oral reports and presentations.

Rationale:

This course embeds multiple hands-on and virtual lab experiences to enhance their knowledge and class experience. Students will be expected to research and share their findings through projects, models, written and/or oral reports and presentations.
