Nicolas Monteleone, a second grader at Greene Hills School, approached his Physical Education teacher with a project to help the less fortunate at the holiday time. He worked very hard putting his project together with the help of his mom and Physical Education teacher, Lisa Galske. He raised over $200 which he used to buy presents for the kids in the Bristol Youth Organization. |

5.2.a. Education Jobs Fund 2010-2012 - Additional Authorization
Rationale:
State of Connecticut Department of Education adjusted the authorized award amount. Increase of $35,985 to initial award of $2,435,732 for final grant of $2,471,717. Preliminary Board of Education approval on October 6, 2010 with Board of Finance approval on March 22, 2011. Following is from original agenda: The Ed Jobs Program is a new Federal program that provides assistance to States and Local Education Agencies to save or create education jobs. Jobs funded under this program include those that provide educational and related services for early childhood, elementary and secondary education.

5.2.b. Main Street Women & Girls Fund - Professional Development of Women in Licensed Home-based Child Care
Rationale:
The FRCs have received a grant for professional development of Licensed Home Based Child Care providers from the Women & Girls’ Fund/ Main Street Foundation. This grant’s purpose is to provide professional development and support to self-employed women providing licensed daycare and early education services for children in their home. Providers will develop the communication/business skills necessary to successfully provide this needed community service and ensure quality care for children under their supervision. Up to 20 licensed providers serving up to 120 children will benefit from this grant.

7.1. Policy Revision

7.1.a. Safe School Climate Plan - Regulation 5131.911 - Second Reading
Rationale:
Public Act 11-232 was approved by the Connecticut Legislature effective July 1, 2011. One component of this legislation requires adoption of a District Safe School Climate Plan to address bullying. Following Board approval of the District Plan, schools will create individual Safe School Climate Plans and appoint a Safe School Climate Coordinator. A meeting of all Safe School Climate Coordinators will be held at least twice annually to review both the school plans and data regarding incidents of bullying. Staff training in the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program is on-going. The cost of training over a 3 year period is $3,800 per school [Yr 1 - $2,000, Yr 2 - $1,000, Yr 3 - $800, totaling $53,200. The State has only made 3 training slots available to the district each year for the past 4 years.

11.2. 2012 Bristol Scholastic Art Award Winners
Rationale:
Bristol Public Schools students earned 23 awards in the 23rd annual Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition and exhibition at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. Top state award winners and gold key recipients’ work is entered in a national competition with a national awards ceremony and exhibition in New York City. The artwork of Christa White, Francesca Souza, Julie Ciralli, Kelsea Paradis, Jessica Capezzone, Nicole Wolf, and Molly Watstein will represent Bristol.
A reception to recognize our outstanding middle and high school students will be held on March 7th at the BOE. Immediately following the reception, the Board will recognize students for their outstanding achievement during the Board of Education Meeting. |
