The Open Choice program provides an opportunity for all Connecticut students and their families to make public school choices among a range of high-quality educational programs and settings. It allows urban students from Hartford to attend Bristol Public Schools. This program maximizes the opportunity for each student to achieve his or her highest potential by offering challenging, relevant and rigorous curriculum and instruction. In addition, the Open Choice program provides a creative and flexible environment that values each student’s unique abilities, talents, interests and learning styles.  Primary goals of this program include increasing student achievement and reducing racial, ethnic and economic isolation for students and families.  We are committed to closing the achievement gap and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

The Sheff Settlement grant allows Bristol to fund programs for Choice students that will enable them to be prepared for college.  Programs will include before, during, and/or after school tutoring, enhanced school-family interactions and communication, opportunities for college visits, and AVID workshops which provides teachers with hands-on training related to implementing highly effective instructional strategies into their classrooms.
