Rationale:
Members of the Killingly community are encouraged to share their thoughts with the Board of Education and are invited to do so during this segment of the meeting. When appropriate to do so, members of the Board and the administration may respond to comments. However, in consideration of those in attendance and in an effort to proceed in a timely manner, follow-up discussion may need to take place outside of the meeting setting.

7.B. 2015 CAPSS Superintendent's Student Award Recipients
Rationale:
Killingly held the Annual Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents, (CAPSS) Northeast Area Superintendents' Student Awards on December 3, 2015. Fifty-two students from surrounding towns were selected by teachers, principals and their superintendent's to receive this award. The award is given to students whose accomplishments and activities go far beyond academic success and include service and leadership, thus making them role-models for other students. This year six students from Killingly received this award. They were; From KMS, 4th graders, Ian Cathell and Jocelyn Crowley. From KIS, 8th graders, Alyssa Gaudreau and Christopher Pawul. From KHS, seniors Bernice Boateng and Joseph Santese, III.

13.D.1. Second Reading of Policy #5113 Student, Attendance/Excuses/Dismissal

Policy #5113 was discussed and reviewed at a policy sub-committee meeting on Oct. 19. Public Act 15-225 requires Boards of Education to monitor and address absenteeism rates by establishing attendance review teams and report annually to the Commissioner of Education the number of truant and chronically absent students. Language in this policy codifies what Killingly is already doing. |

If the Board adopts the version of CABE’s most recent Policy 5131, then that policy could replace current Killingly Policy 5131 and the Board could also repeal current Killingly Policies 5114 and 5144, as the new 5131 would cover those subjects as suggested by Shipman and Goodwin
