Rationale:
During the 2014 legislative session the Legislature authorized Smart Start, a new program to expand pre-k education. Smart Start focuses on public schools by offering a new, stable (over the next ten years) funding mechanism for both capital improvements and operating expenses. Killingly’s application would allow 18 children to enroll in preschool, one teacher salary, and two part-time instructional assistants. Capital improvements: meet accreditation standards (install a bathroom in existing classroom space) and update playground and parking lot at Goodyear. Communities to be informed of acceptance by end of January. |
