November 12, 2014 at 7:00 PM - Regular Board of Education Meeting

Rationale: 

Members of the Killingly community are encouraged to share their thoughts with the Board of Education and are invited to do so during this segment of the meeting. When appropriate to do so, members of the Board and the administration may respond to comments. However, in consideration of those in attendance and in an effort to proceed in a timely manner, follow-up discussion may need to take place outside of the meeting setting.

 

Rationale:  As required by law, the Board must approve its regular meeting dates for the 2015 calendar year. The proposed regular meeting dates are attached. As has been our practice, the first meeting of the month is our business meeting.   When we develop the school calendar for 2015-16 this spring, we will list anticipated meeting dates for January through June 2016.

Rationale:  A synopsis of the status of the transportation department since new director Linda Records came to us in mid-October. 

Rationale:  A review of the evening's events at the Teacher of the Year Banquet, held Monday, November 10th, 2014 at the Elks and sponsored by the Danielson Rotary Club.

Rationale:  Status of conversations with administrators regarding the topic of "Drop out prevention"

Rationale:  Update on status of our Special Education Programs.

Rationale:  Continuing with review of monthly statistics at Killingly High School.

Rationale:  Review of recent results received on CMT/CAPT Science scores for 2014.

Rationale:  General update on programs currently funded through the Alliance Grant.

Rationale:  This action is necessary should the board want to appoint a voting delegate to the Delegate Assembly at the CABE/CAPSS Convention in November. The Assembly is held the day before the convention starts which would be Thursday, November 13. In the past, the board has also selected an alternative.

Rationale: 

The purpose of this policy is for the Board of Education (Board) to determine who shall administer medications in a school and the circumstances under which self-administration of medication by students shall be permitted.

The Board of Education allows students to self-administer medication and school personnel to administer medication to students in accordance with the established procedures, and applicable state regulations, sections 10-212a-1 through 10-212a-10 inclusive.  In order to provide immunity afforded to school personnel who administer medication, the Board of Education, with the advice and approval of the School Medical Advisor and the school nurse supervisor, shall review and/or revise this policy and regulation biennially concerning the administration of medications to District students by a nurse, or in the absence of a nurse, by qualified personnel for schools.  The District’s School Medical Advisor (or other qualified physician) shall approve this policy, its regulations and any changes prior to adoption by the Board.

Rationale:  Shipman and Goodwin  suggested that we update policies #'s 4118.25 and 5141.4.
 
S & G supplied a new policy, compliant with  current Connecticut Statutes. The new policy will replace both policy # 4118.25, (approved May 2004) and 5141.4 (approved August 2004)
